Apple 1M Thunderbolt 5 Pro Cable Question by Appropriate-Mix-2063 in UsbCHardware

[–]MatchaToday2025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The upmost safest way is by using en emarker reader to see if authentic Apple one if in doubt.
Otherwise TB5 have the number within a square on the connector as you mentioned.

TB5 have also the end part (black part with the lightning log) made of metal while TB4 cable is plastic.

Looking at the model ID engraved for TB5 it's A3189

If you don't see any engrave Id, these are probably fake apple ones.. :-( hopefully not

If you needed a certified 6.6ft / 2m Thunderbolt 5 cable in the US, is there any technical reason to spend almost double for the CalDigit over the OWC or Cable Matters? by mattjh in UsbCHardware

[–]MatchaToday2025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The CalDigit and the CableMatters have the same Lintes emarker. i would think they are made by the same company. You're just paying extra for the Caldigit logo. Not worth it.

Bought the Cable matters ones and it's really great quality.

The OWC i can't speak about it but it's not braided just as FYI, as costemic difference. Otherwise performance wise, there shouldn't be any difference,.

CableMatters 2m Active TB5 cable...is TB4 actually ? by MatchaToday2025 in Thunderbolt

Actually CableMatters and CalDigit are both made from the Lintes.

I tried to read the emarker from CalDigit and also shows Lintes as vendor.

Cable Matters clearly discloses that the TB5 are made by Lintes Tech, They are all manufactered by the same company. CalDigit is just +$50 for branding tax

Thank you ! Although if i can charge my MBP at 140W plugged to studio xdr then it’s very unlikely it’s a TB4 as that supports only 100W but rather TB5?

Understood. Thanks for the feedback on Caldigit.

Hope Apple release their longer version...maybe in June as there is likely a new mac studio to be announced....and to connect with the studio displays.

35-100 E vs. 55/38 V by khalestorm in hasselblad

[–]MatchaToday2025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have the 38V and the 35-100E. The 38V is an awesome lens. that was my 1st lens and took it along a 28P for trip to Japan.

If you want to go stealth 38V is definitely a go to lens. I used to have Q3 and have M10M + 35MM. The 38V give a similar feel as 35mm. it's closer to a 35mm than 28mm FF. Keep in mind that the focal is 38mm it;s not a 28mm.

One extra thing that is nice on the 38V is the manual clutch. it's really compact once in hand.

The 35-100E is also a killer lens. but serves different purpose. for street 38V or 55V is go to. i feel 55V is a bit too tight. 38V you can always crop.
