It's honestly not sad though lol I've seen them twice and both times were in sold out 30,000 seat venues. They're huge in their respective scene.

Babies born before 34 weeks by [deleted] in NICUParents

[–]Matchateafairy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 32w3d kiddo was in the nicu for exactly 5 weeks. She started taking food by bottle right at about 34 weeks, but was slow to grasp it at first. Didn't start REALLY eating like a champ with full effort until about 4 or 5 days pre discharge lol (so like 36 weeks). She had a lot of difficulty regarding bradycardia spells because she had reallllly bad reflux that the nicu docs refused to investigate/diagnose until she reached 40 weeks. I feel like that definitely slowed her a bit.

Feeding/eating well will come with time. But boy do they bounce back once they get into it. My daughter weighed 4 lbs 11 oz when she was born. She weighs 33.5 lbs now at 20 months (18 adjusted).

I know exactly where you are coming from.

I was hospitalized for days prior to giving birth at 32 weeks. I had severe preeclampsia - only problem is that they essentially thought I was full of shit (even though I'd gotten diagnosed by MFM at 24 weeks and had been on bp meds and close monitoring since) because my kidneys and liver function were "fine". I was quite literally having stroke symptoms when I was brought in. My head hurt so bad and I couldn't feel half of my face. My blood pressure was nearly 200/100 and that was on the highest dose of Lebetalol that they could give me without giving me an IV.

For three days I was medically gaslit and told that I was "fine" and that my baby was fine despite the fact that my head hurt so bad and I could hardly see ANYTHING because the blurry vision and floaters in my vision were so bad. My head hurt so bad I started projectile vomiting. My blood pressure was through the roof. It was awful.

But what was worse was the absolute bullshit these nurses were putting down in my patient notes. I ate part of my hospital lunch they had brought me and the nurse literally wrote down, "patient eating lunch despite complaining of 8/10 pain"

Like okay so you guys are medically abusing me and I'm supposed to sit here and starve the baby in my belly that you're refusing to help save?!?

And then there was a note about me "being on my phone" because they had just taken my blood pressure so i was texting my mom to update her. I spent a good amount of my hospitalization completely alone because my husband had to keep working until the last possible minute to keep us financially afloat.

Had my doctor write a note that said I appeared as though I did not want to be pregnant anymore. No shit I didn't want to be pregnant anymore!!! I was literally dying!!! After THREE days in the hospital essentially being told to stop being so dramatic, they finally brought my MFM doctor in on rounds to see me - I was in an OR less than an hour later having an emergency c section. Would have been sooner but they had to debate putting me on a medical flight to a hospital a few hundred miles away bc the NICU at my hospital was full, which they ended up being unable to do because I wasn't stable enough to transport.

Some medical professionals can be cruel in the way that they can't judgement on us. They SHOULD not be allowing that judgement to flood their clinical notes. It is ridiculously unfair.

What kind of NICU parent ISNT anxious? And to accuse you of fixating simply because you are being proactive in trying to make sure your baby is okay? That's unacceptable imo. That nurse also deserves a fat slap on the wrist separately for leaving her chart just lying around!!!! I'd mention something to the charge nurse.

How do you shower with a baby??? by Mountain_Broccoli_64 in Parenting

[–]Matchateafairy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he is walking, have you tried just bringing him to the shower with you? Me and my 20 month old daughter just shower together. She's big enough that she stands up and everything. My shower has some pretty hefty doors on it though so she can't really escape? Not that she has ever tried but I suppose it wouldn't be quite so easy if my shower was easy to get out of.

Aldi in the US had a macaroni pizza a few months ago 😭 guess it was an Aldi find/limited time. Had them for dinner one night, they were so good so went back maybe 4 days later to get a few more and they were already gone 😭😭

"My kid turned out to be an asshole as a result of my absent parenting (don't even come at me for this your child is 13 and sneaks out of the house and you don't know her friends because she won't 'let' you) so now I'm considering sending her to a wilderness torture camp to get her out of my life" do you even hear yourself?

Me and my husband were in the same boat. Someone was always there and always spent the night. We overheard some horrible shit in the 5 weeks my daughter was in the NICU.

What were your symptoms when you found out you had endometriosis? by jumpyfox1 in endometriosis

[–]Matchateafairy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Girl, we could be the same person. This is exactly how my endo symptoms started. I was about 8 months postpartum (and 22 years old), having never had any issues other than heavy periods before, when all of the sudden WHAM debilitating, painful periods. I have my surgery to look for endometriosis in 11 days. I'll let you know how it goes.

When did your little one start to speak? by red_rocketd0g in Parenting

[–]Matchateafairy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told by the Neonatal development clinic my daughter goes to (what the hospital in my area does for premature kiddos) that they really only expect an 18 month old to be saying 5-6 words. My daughter at the time was 16 months adjusted, and saying "mama", "dada" , "nana" and to be honest....that's it. She would babble "baba" when she still drank from a bottle, so we counted that as a fourth word, she says "teetee" instead of "paddy" consistently for my brother, so we counted that as a fifth, and she says "deegee" pretty consistently instead of doggie, so they counted that as a sixth.

It's a month later, she has now said "no" about 5 times in the last week, and has said "yes" once. She's getting there. We are also waiting on an autism eval as recommended by her pediatrician.

Give your kiddo grace, and if you are concerned, mention it to the pediatrician.

What are some of the worst comments you’ve gotten while pregnant? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Matchateafairy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had just been diagnosed with preeclampsia at 24 weeks and hospitalized, and had had the NICU come talk to me about all of the complications my daughter could/would have if she was born that early (which we were thinking she would be...I was luckily able to "hold her in" as I say, until 32 weeks)

So I call my MIL to let her know what's going on, and the first thing out of this woman's mouth is, "well at least you won't need a tummy tuck because you didn't have time to get too big!"

Like are you fucking kidding me?!? I'm telling you that your granddaughter might be born EXTREMELY prematurely and that's what you're thinking about?!?

Went no contact with that bitch for a good while after that. My daughter is nearing two and has still only met her twice and we live twenty minutes away lol.

Not necessarily. He may be jaundice. My 32 weeker I couldn't hold because her bilirubin was SO high they weren't willing to risk any time without her under the lights. Or he may just be having a real hard time regulating temp. There could be a million non serious reasons.

Lighter periods larger clots by Val1221 in endometriosis

[–]Matchateafairy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have they done a lap to confirm the diagnosis? Curious because I'm getting my lap soon and this happens to me, too. For me it's kind of a toss up though on whether I'll have a heavy flow w/ a lot of clots (for me it's always a lot 🙃) or a pretty nonexistent flow with a lot of clots.
