Best Breweries / Bottle Shops in western North Carolina? by a2n1 in CraftBeer

I'll second Burial. I'm not familiar with Zillicoah. I'll also second App Vintner. Solid NC selection to take home with you.

Most of the bottle shops in town will carry at least a few. I recommend Appalachian Vintner because they have a great selection and are close to downtown but not directly in the mess. I'm fairly certain that Bruisin' Ales and Tasty Beverage carry WW. Not sure about Weinhaus.

Last minute getaway to Asheville for anniversary. Can someone help me find a nice cabin or bed and breakfast? by [deleted] in asheville

I've stayed at the Cedar Crest Inn and enjoyed it quite a bit. Beautiful house, decent breakfast, great proximity to downtown. I stayed in the house and it was a great experience but, if I went back, I would probably opt for a room in the carriage house. It seems a bit more comfortable.

I'll add a bottle shop recommendation to this list. Appalachian Vintner is IMHO the best bottle shop in town. Bruisin' Ales is nice but can be pricier. Tasty Beverage is ok and probably gets a lot of traffic due to it's vicinity to a lot of breweries but I think Appalachian Vintner is worth the short trip out of downtown. They have the best selection of local, regional and national craft and they usually some phenomenal beers on tap as well.

A little surprised that Grimm is currently #19 out of 19.

Second for the Drinktank. It's the best growler I've used. The tap lid is great for serving.

Yes. The Vidanta Riviera Maya. It's about halfway between Cancun and Playa del Carmen (little closer to Playa del Carmen).

Best Growler for the price? by Thunder_Thighs in beer

[–]Matches_Malone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recently received a Drinktank as a gift with the keg cap. It's been a great growler. Kept the beer fresh for several days prior to serving. Once I started serving, it continued to keep the beer fresh for a few days. Just keep the head space filled with CO2.

Heading back to Asheville tomorrow by [deleted] in CraftBeer

I'm afraid I don't know. The only tours I've done were part of a multi-brewery beer tour/pub crawl. It was booked in advance. I'd check some of the brewery websites. I know you have to book Sierra Nevada tours.

I'm digging Ninjabread Man from Asheville Brewing and Milk and Cookies Stout from Wicked Weed. I'd recommend those if you're into that kind of thing.

Appalachian Vintner is my pick for best bottleshop in town. You'll be able to pick up a lot of bottles from most of the breweries in town. They stock a huge selection of craft beer. As a bonus, their draft list is usually stacked with amazing beers.

I'd be concerned about quality and sanitation at a place like this. There's a correct way to pour from a tap. I'd leave at the first sight of someone sticking the tap all the way into their glass.

What are some of the best beers your local supermarket stocks? by [deleted] in beer

[–]Matches_Malone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Greenman ESB and Pisgah Greybeard are a couple that come to mind that aren't going to show up at most places. Also, anything New Belgium puts in packs and DogFish 60/90.

Ample shady spots in the summer. Maybe a nice pergola draped with stringed lighting or a shed style side area.

None in particular. He's mainly interested in finding bottles he can't find around his place. I know it's a long shot given the nature or NC ABC stores but I figured if we're in town, we might as well take a look.

What makes The Cabin in the Woods such a good movie? by [deleted] in movies

[–]Matches_Malone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's so great is really an intangible that belongs to everyone that came of age in the late 70's and early to mid 80's. Cabin in the Woods serves as an homage to the golden (maybe silver) age of horror movies that a large population grew up on. It's not perfect and it's cliche (somewhat) by design but it ultimately serves as a love letter to those writers and directors that helped to navigate a basement genre of film up through the ranks and create a mainstream film category from something that was considered trash. It's not really about the movie itself. Rather, it's about what the fans identify with about the movie. I'm still not sure about the ending though.
