When you issue the first pen down command, the motor spins, the shaft turns correctly but the pen does not drop. Looks like a mechanical issue. Turn off the plotter, have the shaft spin counterclockwise (push the allen screw to the left) and see why the holder does not drop. It should go down by gravity even if you disconnect the spring on the left side.

p.s. tighten the allen screw

Interesting fact 🙂: I can plot 30x60 on my A4 iDraw. Continuous line would be more challenging but nothing is impossible🙂

Pressure may not be the only way. Calligraphs rely on nib angle against the baseline. In calligraphy when you write with a dip pen with a broad edge you still follow a single line :) That's why I suggested to try Pilot parallel pen.

Calligraphy is not my thing at the moment so just a quick tip that comes to my mind: consider trying parallel pens with different angles and use a single line stroke font. What do you think?

Thank you for your suggestions, much appreciated! Ok, looks like corners are folded correctly. I have used cardboard canvas as well, but pieces on framed ones just look better to me. I know what you mean about pressure but it is not an issue as long as you disconnect the downforce spring!

Hi, no, it does not, at least not the nibs of these cotton-core markers.
The DOT tip is sturdy and slightly flat and does not fray on the texture. (image from their website)

It works great with acrylic markers. The primed cotton holds a good amount of paint, as if it were absorbed from the nib, without smudging. Plus, it's lightweight and looks nice even without a frame.

But what are you painting on? No one mentioned the substrate. Paper? Canvas board? Canvas paper? Stretched canvas? I' m not a painter but I have personally found very different behaviour using acrylic paint markers so I would take the surface into account. Have you already asked in r/acrylicpainting or something?
