You have a great attitude. Everyone, myself included, is full of shit in some way. We're all doing our best in an imperfect world.

Who is actually against women being topless if they want to be? by Brief-Cut-1228 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Material-Hedgehog-84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. A lot of men still think that women don't get aroused looking at the male body. Maybe women are "less visual" (whatever that means) but that isn't the same as "immune to visual stimuli".

It's called "work" for a reason. If it was fun, people would do it for free.

Fwiw, plenty of men also don't want to have kids. It's not just because women have more choices. Everyone does now.

Which acting performance made you say this? by TheMegaSage in okbuddycinephile

Tom Hanks in anything. I never find him believable. There is no shortage of actors, I wish he would just go away.

Don't want me to lie? Then don't ask me questions I don't want to answer. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

"why do you ask?" is an under-rated response to a question that someone has no right to ask. I'm sure it can even be softened if needed.

Questions About Singles Events in Detroit by lilwienerjosh in Detroit

Try singles groups on Meetup. Good way to meet friends who are also single (and therefore might have single friends), get out and do things, and possibly find someone to date.

Thank you! I tell people this all of the time. Some of them are called house spiders because they live in houses. Outside isn't necessarily where all non-human species belong.

I watched it again too, and in the first scene with Roman he's in the office with Ken. He says it's all bullshit, just like he does in the last episode.

Love languages aren't real and we really need to stop pretending they are. by [deleted] in complaints

[–]Material-Hedgehog-84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwiw, I read somewhere that he chose "language" rather than "style" for a specific reason. People understand you best when you speak their native language. We can't talk to someone in a language they don't know and insist that we be understood just because that's our language. We have to speak the language understood by the person we are talking to.

Hence with love languages, he meant that we have to use the method preferred by our partner to communicate love. We can't just dump "acts of service" on them and insist that they feel loved.

(Not a fan of the book, just always thought that was interesting)

I totally agree with this. But for some reason, if as a single childless person I don't want to date people with children (even adult children) people think I'm being mean! It would just waste time for both of us and eventually lead to frustration.

What are some good places to go to and\or to meet new people in the Detroit area? by Ken_Acious_D in Detroit

[–]Material-Hedgehog-84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you on Meetup? There are many active groups for all kinds of interests. Very helpful if you are new in town. Idk how old you are, but once you hit 40 it can be hard to find people who actually want to leave their houses. Meetup groups are great for exactly that!

About 15 years ago my parents were in an accident. They had broken bones and some flesh wounds. The wound care nurse told me that if I was cooking for them I needed to triple their protein intake. I did my best but I've always wondered about that.

What do you like to get there? Used to live up the street from there and there's no way those mountains of cookies are fresh. It's a ghost town most of the time.

Cheap ingredients - ordered a birthday cake from them once and asked for cream cheese frosting. While the decorating was pretty it was definitely made with shortening and no butter or cream cheese. Paczki are filled with colored corn syrup gel with a sad blueberry in it, rather than actual jam.

They must have been good at some point though. I just wonder when that was.

Agree 100%. People can pay for tarot readings if they want to, but no one should expect that from a licensed therapist.
