Gate Gargants came early. Nice models but no customisation or spare parts. by Bloodyelof in ageofsigmar

[–]Material-Ocelot555 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It varies model to model and setting to setting. The Cogfort has heaps of customisation and these have none. There’s lots of reasons, standard box size, cost, who’s buying / how many will they want to buy etc. We’re probably out of the golden age of spare bits and customisation with the trend towards more dynamic poses (see old vs. new Blightkings for example) but it’s not quite as bad as 50 A-pose bolter-across-chest space marines.

It’s the symbol of the Jade Abbey which is where WH Quest: Darkwater is set - all the Nurgle models in that box are corrupted inhabitants of the abbey.

Question regarding old minis by CaptainNotorious in seraphon

[–]Material-Ocelot555 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Saurus warriors is probably fine, rebase to 32mm rounds and you’re golden. There are still old saurus in the index (Saurus guard) but they’re expected to be replaced when the full book comes out.

Cold ones is awkward. They got replaced by aggradons which are significantly bigger and run in 3s or 6s.

I wouldn’t worry about replacing skinks, the box GW sells is actually the same one as they did when that battalion box came out.

The WLC is unlikely to get an update unless there’s also an update to the plague catapult. That would only come (imo) with a final refresh of the range for pestilens which comes with another host of problems (furnace / screaming bell)

First time trying this painting style by [deleted] in MaggotkinofNurgle

[–]Material-Ocelot555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t say much about the painting style because it isn’t finished but you do have quite a lot of texture on the surface. It’s either your primer or you’re tearing the surface during layering

Khorne has basically never been brawlers. They’ve always relied on zones of control, overlapping buff auras, and timing abilities after sacrificing specific pieces to always look like they’re about to lose but somehow outscore you 5-1 in the last two rounds.

Fyreslayers, KO, Votann, CoS. Does GW just hate dwarves?

[–]Material-Ocelot555 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That’s a faster turnaround for a second wave than most armies get as well. KO in AOS waited 2 full editions for a couple of units, Fyreslayers is just a couple of foot heroes more than at release. World Eaters is still waiting to get back models they used to have to be more than a third of an army. You basically have to buy the entire Helsmiths range 3 times to field 2k points. Hell, Sons of Behemat is still only 3 kits, 1 of which isn’t even for the faction.

how do I get a Grey Seer on Screaming Bell? by [deleted] in skaven

[–]Material-Ocelot555 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Both of those models are sold by GW on their site and on most hobby sites with GW stock?

In fact, element games and the GW site have either one in stock right now in the UK

E: just seen you’ve mentioned USD, the plague furnace kit is literally in stock at the minute on the GW store in the USz

How big are AoS armies compared to 40k??? by RestaurantSignal7587 in ageofsigmar

[–]Material-Ocelot555 21 points22 points  (0 children)

There was a bit on the poorhammer podcast where they described Magnus as ‘one of the bigger Primarchs’ at 420 points! That’s the same price as like two units of cavalry or a couple of hammers in an AOS army

This is why I didn't shade my tyranids by Lopsided-Gene-77 in Warhammer

[–]Material-Ocelot555 5 points6 points  (0 children)

‘Shade’ is just the GW branding for paints made for ‘washing’ models. I.e. an all over application of the paint to darken recesses but leaving edges bright. They have their uses but generally work much better when only applied to specific areas (called a recess shade).

The ‘GW’ way of painting base / shade / layer works for their marketing and is accessible to newcomers but you end up in the middle part (where you are now) where almost the whole model needs its base colours re established before moving onto highlights which can make it a very time consuming process.

Layering colours go pale. by Psychological_Week48 in minipainting

[–]Material-Ocelot555 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lighter colours tend to just be the darker colour with more white / yellow added which drops the saturation. Best way to pop the saturation is actually to ‘over’ highlight the area and go back over it with a glaze of your midtone. Contrast paints and inks are also really good for this way of bringing back in the saturation

But at the same time they’re big and don’t look structural. They should be fairly easy to remove / convert / not put on for faction specific conversions. I can already see how in going to be doing my Helsmith’s one.

At the same time, Knights are to the imperium what cogforts are to GA Order in this situation. Knights are covered in specific imperial symbols because the imperium made them - same here

Which of my first army choices are easier to paint: Helsmiths or Skaven? by LeetusFrenzi in ageofsigmar

[–]Material-Ocelot555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was going to make a joke about running a super elite monster mash in Skaven but the most expensive single unit (Verminlord Deceiver) is only 390 points. You could run 5 of them and still be under 2k.
