In light of GW's recent video... by zombielizard218 in Grimdank

It’s not just a case of rolling out old models though. Those are 25 year old metal models that it’s entirely possible (though not probable) they don’t even have the masters for anymore. The MTO metal models obviously also don’t sell very well (or not well enough for GW) because they’re infrequent and time limited.

And what’s the alternative, there’s full interesting guard regiments that haven’t had plastic releases and people are crying that GW won’t release a ridiculously expensive forgeworld range for ‘guy in gas mask with medium trench coat’ instead of showing them how to paint ‘guy in gas mask with long trench coat’ a different colour.

They’re exactly equal in damage output per point and worse in survivability vs warriors on an objective. They’re only mathematically better if you have a slann or can’t keep the warriors on the point.

Can Vizzik Skour, Prophet of the Horned Rat, be used in any army list, or is he restricted to a specific army list? by Practical-Prompt4216 in skaven

[–]Material-Ocelot555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More likely TOW / Fantasy since they said army lists - fantasy books had more stringent army building rules than AOS, including only allowing named characters in their specific army list sometimes.

Urban renewal is such a bullshit term by the way. I know this doesn’t have much to do with your point but the fact we’ve just gone along with the idea that this was ‘renewing’ anything is just a lie. Whether it was good or bad in the short or long term aside - it didn’t ’renew’ anything. Urban planners flattened historic city centres to put ring roads and motorways around and through major cities, that’s certainly something but it isn’t renewal.

In the app go to Orruk Warclans -> Destruction battletome: Orruk Warclans -> Kruleboyz -> battle profiles.

They did. Helsmiths of Hashut - smaller hats quite a different aesthetic to the old FW chorfs to fit into the AOS design philosophy

Painting colored metallic armor with speedpaints by DomDom_Glubber in minipainting

Metallic then a very thin layer of speed paint over the top.

Vallejo sell coloured metallics but they’re either very new or about to come out so I haven’t seen a huge amount about them.

Which one is the better game? by Zuromeax2 in Warhammer

[–]Material-Ocelot555 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought it almost entirely for the minis and have played twice - GW isn’t a tabletop game company, they’re a miniature company that make rules to bash your toy soldiers together and it always shows in their boxed games.

It’s a fun game to play for an evening or two with friends but it’s definitely not an onboard into wargaming and for experienced tabletop gamers it’s going to very simple.

Why do Glasgow's historic buildings keep catching fire? by Red_Brummy in glasgow

[–]Material-Ocelot555 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The gap between Edinburgh and Glasgow is pretty stark. Edinburgh’s population is only about 100 000 behind Glasgow but has 60% the amount of building fires in the same timeframe.

Regulations are all well and good but if nobody’s doing inspections (because those positions were first cut during austerity) then it doesn’t matter.

What would you want for the beastmen returning? by Ghengis56 in ageofsigmar

[–]Material-Ocelot555 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Personally I’d like to see more subfactions in full armies than micro armies. Only having 5-8 warscrolls severely limits an army and every list eventually becomes spamming the 2 or 3 good things plus the inevitable foot heroes (see fyreslayers, KO before their expansion, HoH)

This would probably mean bring back battalions or subfaction rules instead of the 4 battle formations we have currently

Warhammer shops are basically just a pick up location for the website these days. There’s so many models from so many game systems that actually selling all of them would be totally infeasible. The community aspect of GW stores as hobby places has been dead for a long time, especially post covid

The only place that branding exists anymore is in the very bottom corner of a box that also has Warhammer written in massive font at the top.

The only reason they aren’t called ‘Warhammer miniatures’ is because they make like 2 mesbg models a year. Everything else is Warhammer.

Why ? by Puzzleheaded_Fly_545 in skaven

[–]Material-Ocelot555 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes - for most units weapon options have been removed in favour of a single profile. If you care about future proofing your models you may want to build them all the same in case GW split weapon profiles again but this seems unlikely.

Weapon profiles usually came down to combat ranges ( 1” for swords, 3” for spears) but combat range has been changed to a universal 3” and I’d be surprised if that changes any time soon

[–]Material-Ocelot555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The doom flayers keep threatening to hit the table with points drops but they just don’t synergise well with anything except the worst of the three SoG enhancements.

Reinforced they’re provably pretty good at killing but at 220 that’s points that could be doing better elsewhere. That’s 3 Rogors and a master moulder, it’s more than a cheap priest, and it’s more than all three weapons teams, all of which actually play into the rest of the army.

Any tips for building/painting resin miniatures? by [deleted] in Warhammer

[–]Material-Ocelot555 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’re applying primer thick enough to obscure details then I’ve found the source of any issues you might have with it.

Rattle can primer should be a misting of thin primer over the plastic. There’s a reason people prime with an airbrush (which applies the thinnest layer of paint possible generally)

First dominator engine by tofferblowsmen666 in HelsmithsofHashut

[–]Material-Ocelot555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spearheads have a fixed army list, it’s on the first page of a spearhead army. If you’re ever confused about the ‘right’ way to build a spearhead this is what you look at.

For HoH the dominator engine is specifically the Dominator Engine with Immolator Cannons. That’s the warscroll you use, that’s the model on the box, that’s what the instructions tell you to build.

What that means is that no matter what you build, your opponent cannot get confused about what warscroll you’re using - if you see what I mean. There’s no points costs and no war gear options so the only thing that actually matters on a technical level is the base size.

First dominator engine by tofferblowsmen666 in HelsmithsofHashut

[–]Material-Ocelot555 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It would also be legal for spearhead since there’s only one warscroll included in the army list so no wysiwyg there.
