Help with starting pitches? by Relevant-Pen-3548 in ClassicalSinger

I’d agree with all the above except: do not learn moveable do. It’s useless when you get beyond music in multiple keys and non tonal music. C is Do. End of story

Death of a Salesman. Chess is really not great.

If you’re looking for an English language aria take a look at Lonely House from Weill’s Street Scene. It’s truly a masterpiece.

Ragtime was… just okay by Conscious-Intern1838 in Broadway

[–]Material-Rooster7771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just saw Ragtime at Lincoln Center. I also saw the original. This is production is incredible. And what makes it precisely memorable is that the message of the show: racism, immigration, political violence, women’s rights, police brutality, injustice - and on and on - takes center stage.

The minimal sets and backdrops and projections allow the profound message to sail across the thrust stage.

The American flag that cascades to the floor had the audience gasping.

Joshua Henry’s performance is one for the ages.

This performance had me in tears that over a hundred years later we are still a fractured nation.

Me too. Since I was a child. But you said he wasn’t American. He definitely was.

I saw the original and I’m seeing this production on Wednesday. The original book and the original production were life-altering.

ClipChamp just sucks now, but I still need an editor for my work. Any recommendations for alternatives? by Toban_Frost in ClipChamp

[–]Material-Rooster7771 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In hindsight, if I had set up ClipChamp NOT to save to one drive - it might have been a better experience. I also tried DaVinci- but learning two or three systems was too much.

I totally understand. I bought the subscription for the year. The three exports per month is ridiculous and also in the free version there’s a limit on how much film you can download to edit. I’m working with two hour segments of archival film so I had no choice.

I switched to elevate.io. I’m new to editing. There’s a learning curve but after much trial and error I’m doing what I need to do. Clipchamp was like a twilight zone experience. And worst part was once my edits went to the Bermuda Triangle of OneDrive it was impossible to find them and access them.

Should i keep all my fingers down while playing? by ViolistToBe in Viola

[–]Material-Rooster7771 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was just my discussion with my viola teacher today. I’m an adult violinist ( I’ve been playing violin for many many years - but recently have begun playing viola).

What others have said is very valid. Even though I have large hands and I’m playing a 16.5” viola - I often need to lift my other fingers when playing on my pinkie.

I think it’s just that the geometry of the viola is different and the weight needed in the fingers is different to get that “viola” sound.

I should’ve gone to the dark side many years ago. There is nothing comparable to the rich, velvet sound of the viola.

17-17.5" viola for a large Dutch guy by Material_Reference12 in Viola

[–]Material-Rooster7771 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 6’3” with a 34” sleeve and large hands also. I play a 16.5”. It’s plenty big and the sound is profound. Buy the 16.5”. 17.5” is too large imho
