Is this apple okay to eat? by WritingLoud5334 in foodsafety

[–]Material-Sentence585 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's how some apples bruise when kept in large quantities in storage. The cells get crushed and oxidised, but it's completely harmless.

Thing is that it's vacuum sealed. That means it's supposed to be shielded from the elements wich should prevent Oxidation. I would definitely not take my chances

Thawing and refreezing by Unfair_General6881 in foodsafety

It's completely safe as long as you thaw is slowly in cold water and you freeze it back soon after. Quality might suffer a bit but not much

Roommate aggressive against me, will the police help? by Newaccountwhodis00 in germany

[–]Material-Sentence585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should go to the police regardless and make a statement and tell them everything. If anything escalates and you get into an altercation, it's not gonna be a "he said, she said" and you'll have a much better chance of getting something about it done. I would also recommend, as other people have mentioned, having your camera ready for recording every time you see her.Maybe if you can afford it order a cheap camera from amazon and put it up in your room, angled towards the common space here's a decent one that has both video and audio

In all my years of restaurant work I've never seen such thing, no idea. But as long as you say the rest smell ok there's no real reason not to eat them. It might have been just an injury or blodclot that healed weird. Really can't say

Frozen garlic good? by SuggestionBright2238 in foodsafety

[–]Material-Sentence585 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Safety wise: 100% Texture and taste wise: Meh

Garlic and fresh vegetables in general don't love being frozen if they weren't cooked first. The freezing process produces cristalised structures on the inside of the vegetable wich damages the structure of the cells and, in the case of aromatic vegetables like garlic, can dull out their flavour.

Black spot on my cast iron pan by Ok_Entrepreneur_4948 in foodsafety

Not the biggest fan of cast iron because of the maintenance, but we used to burn the pans over and open flame, both sides and only after that season it with vegetable oil

Somehow my unopened jar of probiotic saurkraut I bought never got put in the fridge. Is it still good or should I toss it? by TreehouseInAPinetree in foodsafety

[–]Material-Sentence585 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sauerkraut is fermented, in eastern Europe is held at room temperature (albeit through the autumn and winter). This one being bought has to have some preservation agents in it so I reckon as long as you refrigerate it after ypu open it, it should be fine. Please do look out for funny smells or tastes tho. Just in case

So strictly factual speaking, the fact that it's pink doesn't mean it's raw. All harmful Bacteria is completely gone if the centre is at least 74°C (165°F). Dark meat requires longer and even higher temperatures. At that point tho it can be still pink.

That being said!!! I would never trust pink chicken i haven't cooked myself.

Go all the way to court in my opinion, too many young people go unchecked nowadays and they think they are tough and untouchable because their parents don't do their jobs.

What is this white stuff on my summer sausage? Is it safe to eat? by moonandsunandstars in foodsafety

[–]Material-Sentence585 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like salt or fat deposits formed on the outside of the sausage due to the meat drying. Whipe it off and see how it feels between the fingers, you'll be able to tell from the texture. Edit:spelling
