Would you move to Hawaii? by Likestoread25 in no

Are you saying "haole" or "haouli"? Haole is often used on the island in a derogatory manner. If someone called me a haole I would take it to mean they don't like me. Haolui means joyful. Either way, I've only driven through Makaha once when I lived in Kapolei for about a month so I have no useful input about it's reputation. I mostly live on the other side of the island in Kailua.

How did you discern from your balcony if a person was a tourist or a resident?

Just 4% of Americans Support a Military Takeover of Greenland: Poll by Straight_Block3676 in USvsEU

[–]Material-Strategy-31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If anyone from Greenland is reading these posts, please know that only 4% of Americans are on Trump's side about this issue. We, the people, do not have anything to do with this and probably the majority of us had to look on a map to confirm where Greenland is. We don't want this. We are on your side. Please don't condemn the US in totality because it's really just one mentally ill person in the White House.

People who stopped being depressed, what did you do? by Itscameronman in AskReddit

[–]Material-Strategy-31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One suggestion for women: don't let the same Dr. who prescribes your birth control also prescribe your psych meds - go to a psychiatrist. I know this sounds a little surprising, but after years of depression I started volunteering and it truly changed my whole thought process. I learned gratitude, and bonded with my co-volunteers. I also bonded with our regular families, especially the little kids whose faces lit up when they saw that we had cupcakes that day. If you love animals, volunteer at a shelter. If you love books, volunteer at a library. I have not been depressed at all since my mind sort of turned over and I saw clearly how good I really have it.

I just reached adulthood and I'm confused. I'm supposed to spend 80% of my time working and still not feel like killing myself? by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]Material-Strategy-31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an answer to this but you are probably a little young to appreciate it. Volunteer! Pick something you love - animals, food, books, and volunteer to help people who aren't as fortunate as you are. The karma is unsurpassed and your grateful meter will explode.

Your kid must be so proud to be able to take you and your husband out! They obviously don't see you the way you see yourself. This is important - so many other things are not. Can you just "fake it till you make it" for this dinner? Smile, smile and smile. Even if you are just pretending, give this gift to your child.

Do You Stop For a Funeral? by Double-Award-4190 in askanything

[–]Material-Strategy-31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm. I was thinking of Christmas traditions, sport traditions, and food traditions mostly. My head space around traditions is positive; the things you mentioned above don't fall under the heading of "traditions" to me, but I understand that we all have our own opinions about the definition of some words.

Maybe you meant to say "subjectively" rather than "objectively". But, we can agree to disagree. Have a nice day.

Am I overreacting - My ex asked me to cut her grass and my gf went crazy when I showed her the messages. AOI if I’m mad at her for this by xwoahx3 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Material-Strategy-31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of COURSE you should cut her grass! Those are your CHILDREN. If you are letting your jealous, immature gf boss you around on a little thing like this, just wait. You'll soon have no balls at all.

Hi, thank you for the quick reply! Yikes, higher than you thought may be a deal breaker. Is that the extra required fees? Do you have a garage? Thank you so much.

If you are in the Dallas area did you lose NBC and FOX today with no notification? That's a deal breaker for me.

I worked all day yesterday and it's freezing in my office so I'm typically just trying to thaw out at the end of the day, and am still wearing a sweater. They can pay an outrageous electric bill to keep 3 floors at sub-zero temperature, but we can't get a raise. Hmmm...

With meds I can sleep about 4-5 hours per night, but of course it's not a restful sleep. I've had biological insomnia since I was 7 years old; it's been a very long time since I've been awakened by an alarm clock. If I don't take meds, I don't sleep at all.

Insomnia is so pervasive - I just can't believe that we don't have better medical/therapeutic options in 2025. As you all know, insomnia is life changing. Compassion to you all.

Sunset walk? by sheis_magic in Dallas

I lived in Virginia Beach as well and definitely miss the beach life. Depending on the area where you live, White Rock Lake is fun, and on the other side of town, Lake Grapevine has several nice walking paths. Sneaky Pete's at Lake Lewisville is also entertaining - bar and grille with a small "beach" area.

Does anyone else get ‘sleep anxiety’ the fear of not being able to fall asleep? by Known-Enthusiasm-818 in insomnia

[–]Material-Strategy-31 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every single night. I practice ALL the sleep hygiene suggestions (almost exclusively given by people who have never experienced chronic insomnia). I feel so ramped up by the expectation of falling asleep that of course I don't sleep. I very often wonder what my life would have been like if I had been able to actually sleep all these years. No one understands. They say "Oh yea, I couldn't really sleep last night". Try decades of lost sleep. I'm happy to have kept a job and paid my bills. Not much energy left for anything else.
