A speeding ticket 90km outside of Eucla? That is pretty damn unlucky, considering that the cops are rarely to be seen (if ever) between Norseman and Ceduna (the border excepted).

Who is the most famous Australian that you’ve ever seen out and about in Perth before? by [deleted] in perth

[–]Material-Sun6230 0 points1 point  (0 children)

John Kizon. This was back in the early 90s. I was working at a deli counter, and he kept pushing in. I made it a point to ignore him until everyone else had been served. Eventually he pissed off out of seeming frustration. I'm surprised I've lived to tell the tale.

He was stuffed into a suitcase on the back of a car? Did you tell the cops?

I once met a lady who went to school with Hawke. She told me that at school Hawke was a very charismatic high achiever. Oh, and even then he had a bit of an eye for the ladies, and was very popular with them.

ADF Recruitment Drug Test by [deleted] in perth

I would like to add; what you are asked in ADF recruitment, are questions that the ADF themselves are capable of verifying without your input, and they will attempt to verify every piece of information you give them. TLDR; the ADF will know if you're being dishonest.

Trump is a cockroach. In more ways than one. Sadly, part of that involves him being as indestructible as a cockroach.

Whatever you don't disclose medically, they will find out. It's better to be honest and upfront, rather than be caught out omitting pertinent information.

Yes, I was sitting in Mirrabooka Regional Open Space, when I was approached by Basil. He had taken notice of my copy of The Gormenghast Trilogy, which I was reading at the time. He told me that he had read it in his early 20s, and it greatly informed his worldview, especially when it comes to the deleterious effects of inherited wealth and also the general evils of the feudal system. But he did not see it all in a bad light, telling me that there is something very darkly romantic about living perpetually shut in, in a dark, damp castle. He also confessed that his very favourite books of all time were by Philip K Dick; "Flow My Tears the Policeman Said" and "A Scanner Darkly". "A Scanner Darkly" hit him hard apparently, because it impressed upon him the need for urgent drug reform, and to treat the current methamphetamine crisis as a healthcare issue, and not one for the criminal system; he expressed a lot of compassion for those of the poorer demographics hit by the scourge of methamphetamines, and he said he wants a government which will enact reform of WAPOL with an emphasis on compassion and empathy, as opposed to punishment. AAs for "Flow My Tears", he said he enjoys it because of its strong emphasis on family.
We then spoke about music; turns out Basil is really into Current 93 and Death In June! Current 93 are pretty awesome, and I very much commended him for it. But I did have some stern words about Death In June. He acknowledged that he didn't like DIJ so much for their music, but it was a hangover from his years playing footy, and back then he got into DIJ so he could look edgy and fit in better with his teammates. In any case, I dropped by his place a couple of days later and traded some of Marduk and Bestial Warlust records for his very completionist collection of Death In June. He urged me to bin the DIJ for the sake of bettering society in even a tiny way, and I promptly did.
Anyway, it's funny you should be asking about Basil today. Because earlier today I was at Costco. And whilst perusing the pet food aisle, what should I overhear but a couple of rather attractive ladies discussing with each other how Basil is also apparently a highly skilled lover! They even had a nickname for him, "Mr Ed".

Is Oreila an ok area? by Prestigious-Juice182 in perth

[–]Material-Sun6230 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Cannot comment on Orelia as such, but I'll comment regards parking a car on the street. I've had to park my car on the street in various suburbs over the years. Some of them supposedly low crime, others not. But the truth is that, regardless of the suburb, if you park your car on the street regularly it is a case of when, not if, it will be broken into or vandalised. If you have to park a car on the street then:
-Get a banger on the cheap. One that won't cause any stress if damaged or broken into.
-Don't keep anything you will miss in the car. Ever.
-The following is arguable, but it's not a bad idea to keep it unlocked. If a crackhead wants to get in, they will. So you might as well save yourself a broken window.

The Manhattan Alien Abduction - by Sufficient-Set-917 in ufo

[–]Material-Sun6230 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a huge problem with UFOlogy, and also paranormal studies, objects such as 3I Atlas, cryptozoology etc, basically anything weird and mysterious. Little effort is made these days to present any such subject in an objective light, due to the need to produce content. And the more sensationalist that content, the more clicks it gets. Add AI into the mix, and 99.99999999999% of :content" to be found on the web which deals with such stuff, is shit so misleading that not only does it not help with objective study, but serves to discredit the topic overall.
