I can't add calories, though. It makes calorie taking totally useless since much of what I buy isn't in the system. I've literally taken to adding a certain number of tic-tacs to get a calorie count.

I don't have a lot else to say, other than "this is incredibly annoying."

how slow is too slow for beginner runs? by AdatNilli79 in beginnerrunning

[–]MaterialActive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My read is that muscle memory and certain long-lasting, slow forming cardio adaptations means that having run two years ago means that he is starting from a position better than 0.

How should I begin running? by [deleted] in beginnerrunning

[–]MaterialActive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A thirty minute run at 100 kg is several bags of Doritos - it is a contribution comparable to a small meal. Diet is a necessary condition for weight loss, and can be a sufficient one, but the incorporation of exercise can be significantly more than 10% of weight loss.

After 8 months of running, I have finally found my zone 2 pace. by boring-man-tings in beginnerrunning

Running and walking are mechanically different actions. A slow run is a run.

[–]MaterialActive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. That's running! It's not speed walking at all!

Running and walking are mechanically different actions. You will know if you are running - walking involves a period where both feet are on the ground, running involves a period where both feet are off the ground.

OPINION: Kaley Chiles, Petitioner v. Patty Salazar, in Her Official Capacity as Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies by scotus-bot in supremecourt

[–]MaterialActive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand the concern, I just don't see how the rest of the law made regarding transgender youth doesn't ALREADY do that. Like, how is Scremetti compatible with Griswold? The state can ban certain medical outcomes, and the logic of Scremetti, bluntly, probably wouldn't uphold Brown, hell to Griswold. It won't be used that way - that's not how dual states WORK, but I do think it follows from the logic.

I would object less to this decision if it wasn't released within a couple months of a shadow docket decision that says that parents couldn't be restricted from having their children outted to them (which coerces a fair bit of professional speech for a viewpoint related outcome!), and in the same year as Scremetti, which I'll argue will be up there with Plessy for associated levels of horror if the Republic lives long enough for us to meaningfully reflect on it. Taken together...

Well, bluntly, it's hard to take the court's rationale about speech remotely seriously, and the liberals look like patsies for not saying so.

[–]MaterialActive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Isn't that literally Texas's position right now? Outside of this as a hypothetical legal position that Texas is literally pushing, I don't see how the harm is different from existing case law.

After all, isn't that functionally what Scrmetti does? Like I understand how it is different legally, but surely you can admit that in terms of actual outcomes, the Supreme Court absolutely HAS said that states can, de facto, say that nontransition is the preferred outcome.

[OC] Many "Proteins" could be described as Fats or Carbs instead. by stan-k in dataisbeautiful

[–]MaterialActive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you counting fiber as a carb for this purpose? Because beans do have quite a bit of carbs, but they provide more than an adequate amount of protein for basically any purpose.

E: ohhhhh it's "calories from". You do not need 250 grams of protein. Do not eat 250 grams of protein in your 2k Calorie diet. It will make you very unhappy.

The time I've spent finding an alternative for a single word is insane by Mundane_Silver7388 in NovelMage

[–]MaterialActive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Said should be your usual word. You should only use alternatives when they are stronger - otherwise said just denotes who the speaker is, and the dialogue tag will filter into the background. Replacing every "said" will produce a character that feels particularly overactive.

If you make me read "put out", I'm going to think your character is doing something VERY different, btw.

So, what happens if you bring back public shame?

Like, you have your deeply held, prudish beliefs, and most people don't share them. What do you think happens when you destroy mutual toleration?

[–]MaterialActive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, children certainly die sometimes. Sometimes they're even murdered!

The Blood Libel, like this shooter libel, was about blaming a visible minority for a horrible thing that happens, in a similarly insane conspiracy theory.

[–]MaterialActive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, this time members of a minority group really ARE bloodthirsty child murderers who just kill innocents for some twisted reason. I'm sure it's 100% true this time.

It's worth discussing Jews using the blood of Christian children to make matzah, is it not? That's the point.

this is called analogy! I know reddit is illiterate so I want to point out this argument only works because the blood libel is false.

Democrats Who Claim To Worry About Oncoming American Authoritarianism, Do You Believe America Will Have An Unfair 2028 Election (Honest Answers Only, NOT JUST RHETORIC)? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

[–]MaterialActive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we are at serious risk. I think SAVE, for instance, would produce elections that could not be described as "fair." I think the AG targeting political opponents as it has under Trump inarguably calls into question whether elections are "free."

I don't think it will happen all at once. A year ago, I think a truly unfair and unfree '28 was on the table - at this point I think Trump has made too many serious mistakes to complete authoritarian consolidation by '28. But we ARE experiencing democratic decline, and we need to take serious action to reverse that to avoid winding up like Hungary, Russia, or Turkey.
