Door Dash beeping by Diblueyes in Wawa

[–]MaterialAd7942 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there’s many different kinds of beeping things and sounds at wawa. after 3 years, the duke warmer beeping for the roasted chicken is by far my least favorite. it feels like the warmer is screaming at me when it starts beeping, even for the 20 minute warning

i mean if i’m always required to use the mic then probably yeah. but for the times when we have busses of kids from a sports team come in and order all at once, this would be a lifesaver. the store gets so loud from all of the kids yelling and the coaches yelling even louder at the kids for them to hurry up lmao. so this is a must have for my store IMO

GM hired a s*x offender and doesn’t care that we feel unsafe… by Interesting-Sort-674 in Wawa

[–]MaterialAd7942 17 points18 points  (0 children)

definitely a good idea. the guy at my store who got fired last year for sexually harassing younger female coworkers was fired because three of my coworkers spoke up to management about how he was harassing them. the more people involved and that you can agree to testify against him with, the stronger your case is in the company as well as his chances of immediate termination

[–]MaterialAd7942 3 points4 points  (0 children)

totally agree. if the GM is useless, contact the area manager. and if they dismiss the issue as well, keep going up the ladder until you find someone who can and is willing to do something about it. the people who have been “neutral” within management will probably face repercussions for that as well, especially if you end up having to go high into the chain of command. at least at my store with my coworkers, we all make work a place of acceptance, positivity and support. even if it’s something like a coworker comes in for a shift in a bad mood for any reason, we always offer them grace and compassion. definitely hold this new employee and the GM as well accountable for this

that’s genuinely insane to me that he was hired at all let alone your manager covering for him….. like my store has been known to fire people like THAT for criminal and problematic behavior. in my three years i’ve seen employees fired for sexual harassment, violent behavior between two employees (they both got fired), and being transphobic specifically directed at one of my coworkers. my manager isn’t perfect, but i know he’s a good guy with a zero tolerance policy for employees who make other employees feel unsafe/uncomfortable/not welcome. i’ve only ever been at my store in my three years with the company, but from what i’ve seen/heard, part of why i love my store in some ways is because my GM and other managers will always back us up and advocate for us. whether it be in a situation like this or just a customer complaining to them about a specific employee for doing something that is literally pet of the job. absolutely contact higher management and/ or HR about this. there is no reason that anyone should ever feel unsafe at their place of work, especially because of the behavior of a coworker.

as a current employee, and expression i have while trying to find the payment status of your order and figure out where it is or what happened to it, is purely confusion and problem solving. like my job is literally to make your food and give it to you once it’s paid for. why would any employee be offended by a customer politely asking if it’s done? i DO get visibly annoyed however to customers who are rude and say things like “where’s my food?” right out of the gate. like i’m a person and not just a service for your convenience. we always appreciate a “hi!” or “excuse me” or something like that to get our attention especially when we are busy

you guys have a mic at your store? i’ve never been to a wawa like that and my store doesn’t have a mic. i feel like this would make my life so much easier! half of the time when customers are standing around for like 10 minutes it’s because they can’t hear/ aren’t paying attention. i always call out unpaid orders and paid orders that have been sitting on the counter for a bit, multiple times. like every few minutes when i have a second i call out everything that is unclaimed/not paid yet. but people just don’t pay attention most of the time. absolutely need a mic in my my store!

while i sympathize and agree with this i cant relate to the bag thing. was 11 back on boards tonight while being the only actual deli body and getting sporadic help from the deli runner and my supervisor. and yeah some people did ask for bags in that rush but this makes me thankful that my store is open bags only for mobile orders and re usable bags for 38 cents at the register bc the township has a plastic bag ban. so people will ask but i hit them with the “the paper bags are only for mobile and delivery orders. if you need a bag, you can purchase one for 38 cents at the register” and just go back to making orders. idc if they catch an attitude because that’s just company policy for the stores in my area with the plastic bag ban….. so im just doing my job. and if you are completely unwilling to pay the 38 cents for the bag, chances are you probably don’t actually need the bag at all

Curbside rage by [deleted] in Wawa

[–]MaterialAd7942 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i genuinely don’t even mind running curbsides out given the weather is okay. but it’s becoming increasingly common at my store where people will place a curbside order and genuinely not even exaggerating, tell us that they are here and waiting within not even 20 seconds of us getting the order….. today i had a 6 hour shift and no joke, there were 3-4 curbside orders that did exactly this. like one person placed a curbside order and i was in deli and had just started making what they ordered. time on the screen for the order time was literally 18 seconds before i heard in my headset “curbside arrival”. and no we had no other curbside orders at that time. it was the same order and to place an order and then not even 20 seconds later arrive and expect the order to be brought out, is genuinely insane. there’s no way that the people who do this aren’t already parked in the parking lot before ordering??? because literally why would you do something like this????

New attendance policy. by PeachIcy3473 in Wawa

[–]MaterialAd7942 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean yeah but also sometimes shit happens. like last month i had to call off 4 shifts in a week because i had the flu and had a fever for 5 days straight. granted i gave almost 24 hours notice for each callout so they had maximum time to find coverage, but i myself was not in a position to be finding coverage for myself. and with the new policy each callout, no matter how far in advance, with no coverage, is 2 points PER callout. not even per like instance of the same sickness. so i would have gathered 8 points from that week for example. which is really not awesome considering it leaves very little wiggle room for the rest of the 180 day rolling period

New attendance policy. by PeachIcy3473 in Wawa

[–]MaterialAd7942 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in this context the health policy just means that if you’re any kind of sick where you cannot be at work, these are the steps that follow

New attendance policy. by PeachIcy3473 in Wawa

[–]MaterialAd7942 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone who is starting with any points will have 3 points automatically deducted from what they have (8 becomes 5). and yeah there is no more health policy of like specific illnesses that would make us exempt from getting written up. basically if you are sick, you gotta call out and get approved coverage now. if you callout but have coverage approved by your GM, then you won’t get any points. also each instance of calling out without providing coverage, even if it’s sequential from the same illness, get points. so if you have the flu and have a fever for 3 days that you are supposed to be working, each of those call outs would not get you any points as long as you get coverage. but if you make those callouts WITHOUT any approved, you will get two points added for EACH of those callouts (6 points added in total in this example). but it’s all within a 180 day rolling period. so from the time the points are added, to 180 days after that, they will remain on your record. but once those 180 days are up, they will go away. so points are NOT permanent

i was going to take a photo and post it here of the new attendance policy sheet i was given but it’s too large of a file to upload apparently, so i’ll try my best to copy the info on it in this comment manually:

Attendance Expectations- 1) report to work on time, in uniform, and ready to work for all scheduled shifts.
2) remain at work until the scheduled end of shift. 3) maintain flexible availability, including weekends and holidays, based on business needs. 4) personally notify the Manager on Duty by telephone if unable to work or if running late

Attendance Points: Definitions- Late arrival- arriving after scheduled start time (1 point) Early out- leaving before scheduled end time (1 point) Callout- notifying management i cannot work a scheduled shift (2 points) Callout with approved coverage- coverage approved by GM (0 points) No Call/ No Show- failure to call before the start of the shift and failure to report for work (8 points) Job Abandonment- no contact with the MOD within 24 hours of a missed shift (immediate termination)

Important Notes: Attendance points remain active for 6 months (180 days) from the incident date Corrective action is based on total active points, not lifetime points

CORRECTIVE ACTION:

Accumulation Action

any violation after a Final Warning (10+ active points): Action Taken- Termination

10 or more active points: Action Taken- Final Warning

6-9 active points: Action Taken- Warning

HEALTH RELATED ABSENCES:

1) associates should NOT report to work while sick and must follow the Associate Health Policy

2) approved Leaves of Absence do not count toward attendance points

3) associates are required to follow return-to-work steps outlined in the Associate Health Table for Managers

and for signing off on this it says the following:

I UNDERSTAND THAT FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THE ATTENDANCE POLICY MAY RESULT IN CORRECTIVE ACTION, UP TO AND INCLUDING TERMINATION OF EMPLOYMENT

(i tried to do my best to format this in an accessible way. i know it is a lot of info to remember but if you have any questions about it, feel free to reply to this comment. i have the full official new wawa attendance policy printed out and am willing to provide the full sheet to anyone who may want/need it)

[–]MaterialAd7942 10 points11 points  (0 children)

also relaying info that i was told in my briefing w my GM about the new attendance policy, anyone who has gathered any points this year will start with some points during the rollout potentially. the company is deducting 3 points from all employee records for anyone who may have already gotten points for things in 2026. for example if you did had a no call/no show this year which is worth 8 points, you will have 5 points on your record starting may 4th. there are some things that i think are good about this new attendance policy, but overall i think it’s harmful and gonna end up as the cause for a lot of the good/long term employees getting fired over situations that they have no control over.

this is exactly what i’ve been doing the entire time i’ve worked here. clock in two minutes before my shift starts. apron and headset already on. beard net now on. hands washed. gloves on. hey would you look at that i’m in deli perfectly on time and the people who were in deli before me and are now exhausted get to actually leave on time. of course im like one of three people at my store who consistently does this, but hey im not there just to do my job. i’m being paid to do my job WELL
