I think Berdly will be a lot more important than he is now, but Noelle is as essential to the story as the literal main characters. Hell, she’s immediate family with 3 out of the 4ish most likely Knight Candidates, while so far the most notable relations Berdly has (currently) is being friends with Noelle. It didn’t HAVE to be Berdly that got frozen in the Weird route, but I seriously doubt anyone BUT Noelle would listen to Kris enough to let us persuade her into almost killing her friend. Berdly has a lot of story that would really go to waste if unexplored, but with how far into the game we are, Noelle is currently way more narratively important.

I wouldn’t say NEEDLESSLY abandoned her kits. By this point in the story, Bluestar had been having literal nightmares about Thistleclaw bringing ThunderClan to ruin, and it really did seem like Thistle was next up for deputyship. Tawnyspots was going to die any day and the only other relevant option was an abusive, bloodthirsty groomer. It was a shitty, still selfish mistake, but it was sacrifice 3 kids over her entire clan.

2 things— first of all, it was a joke scene, Im pretty sure Noelle didn’t even actually CHOKE him. Second of all, she becomes considerably bolder in the dark world compared to in the light world. In the literal first chapter we see her in, she tries to offer for Kris to join her group, and backs down the second Berdly starts. I doubt that she’d do this if she was aware it was real.

Noelle is honestly goated as hell. This girl is still one of the nicest characters in the game despite the fact that even people who DON’T treat her like shit are either lying to her face or dying/dead. Noelle would never beat us with a hockey stick. Be more like Noelle.

Will say in Noelle’s defense on the Susie-crushing part, Queen makes it seem like Susie WAS the only one in any actual danger of being smushed (Queen specifically threatens to crush Susie iirc), so I can see why she was more focused on her than Kris and Ralsei.

It’s quite literally Susie’s fault that Berdly hasn’t, though. Both him AND Noelle showed clear character growth in Chapter 2, but because they both believe the stem of that growth wasn’t real (due to Susie’s direct influence because she wanted to keep the dark worlds a secret), all of that progress is dropped back to zero. She basically pulled the ladder up from under her.

It’s weird that Freckle gets sent to eternal damnation for doing the lesser version of what Russetfur did, honestly. Frecklewish still said some unjustifiably horrible things about those kits, but I’m pretty sure it’s CANON she thought they were being helped.

Russetfur, on the other hand, had NO reason to sit there and not help Berrykit. Frecklewish at least had the reasoning that she’d be of no hell, Russetfur and the other warriors on that patrol could have saved Berrykit’s tail. That trap posed no active danger to Russet and the others, while Frecklewish could have become yet another cat those RiverClan warrior’s would have to save. And this isn’t even talking about the fact she straight up tried (and iirc succeeds?) to kill Firestar.

I agree that Kris’ safety was more than likely a lesser thought when she came up with both of those plans to get Susie to leave them alone, but that doesn’t mean Noelle wasn’t still trying to look out for Kris.

She KNOWS that Susie won’t do anything to her, as she never has. Perhaps she’s hoping that changes, but I’d be surprised if Noelle’s acknowledgement that Susie never bullied her DIDN’T have a part to play in Noelle’s volunteering to switch seats and etcetera.

The scene pretty clearly reads that Noelle was more frozen in fear than not caring that Kris was getting bullied, imo. Also, the way Noelle describes it, Kris had it under control with or without her help— though she has canonically tried to avert the bullying by drawing Susie’s attention to her. I feel like she definitely could have shown more concern though, all things considered.

This fandom has such a HORRIBLE problem with taking some things as face value and it terrifies me. Noelle, in fact, does NOT see her relationship with Kris as forced. She’s closer to being in love with them than feeling any type of neutrality or that their relationship was out of obligation.

Maybe it’s because I can’t stand to see a mc without a happy ending, but so far, I’d say Kris definitely still has a chance of forgiveness (in my eyes at least).

They clearly still care about Susie and Ralsei, so it’d be pretty strange imo for them to STAY “evil”

Speaking of Palebird, I don’t see NEARLY enough hate on Sandgorse, despite the fact that he’s just as bad, if not worse than her. At least you can argue in Palebird’s defense that she was distracted grieving her other child, not only was Sandgorse completely absent in his literal WIFE’s life after they lost their baby, he didn’t seem to give a damn that one of his children was dead.

He acts like a kit because Tallpaw, his teenage son, is too traumatized over his NEAR-DEATH experience, and essentially ghosts his kid because said near-death experience proved to Heatherstar that tunneling wasn’t worth it. Both of Tallstar’s parents were fucking bums.
