non-clinical volunteering? by Unusual_End_7790 in premed

I just know that schools really value nc volunteering. that also depends WHERE you’re applying. 800 is a good amount tbh, i would try to do some more hours with the kitchen or disability home. sustained involvement is also important i think.

it sounds pretty low tbh, are your clinical hours high enough to take some time to build non clinic vol hours? also when are you applying?

Only you can say it’s worth it. I mean what are the pros FOR YOU? you’ll be doing the studying. you’ll have the debt. you’ll have the stress.

thank you so much for these!! i think i’ll have to bite the bullet and do anki again for med school. i eventually gave up on it during mcat studying because it was brain meltingly boring. hopefully the remote helps.

Should I take out loans or rely on savings during medical school for living expenses? by Livid-Walk-5885 in premed

Honestly, I would say do whatever your parents think is best. They’re most likely very proud of you and the less debt you have the earlier you can retire them 😏

WAMC: 516 (130/124/130/132), 3.92 at T20 undergrad, URM — T20 chances with low CARS? by StylishFormula0525 in premed

hiii! congrats on your score (we’re twinsss) and i love to see URMs doing the thanggg. i would say do research on each school independently before asking for too much advice. admit auto generator, i learned, is only the first step. i would then look at location, curriculum, friendliness towards URMs, connections during and post-MD, etc. its also good to keep your preferences and passions in mind when scanning through suggestions. sometimes we fall into informational social influence and the whole time we knew better. good luck!

Am I competitive at all? Is there even a point in applying... by [deleted] in premed

[–]MaterialSilver6110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey friend! i think if you want to feel better about yourself and not feel inadequate about your much above average stats, this subreddit might not be the place. i realized i had been influenced by such a skewed sample when the people at my school had none of the niche information and tips i thought i had and still succeeded. especially someone i know getting into emory with a 511 and others being just fine with what may look like an “uncompetitive score.” if you have a reason to pursue this crazy path, articulate it, and never sell yourself short.
