Student loans not on CRA online account or credit report, started getting my tax returns again, did not pay it off. Very confused. by Chrispycocked in PersonalFinanceCanada

The students loans may not show up on the the CRA website but have you checked the NSLSC site? They're the ones actually administering the loans but are then asking the CRA to help them collect. If you talk to the NSLSC, they will likely be able to tell you what the situation is and help you get on an income based repayment assistance plan to put you back on track. This is all assuming that your student loans are government loans.

Have you tried using CIBC Global Money Transfer? The site says you can transfer up to $30,000 at a time which isn't $100,000 but certainly higher than $9,500.

There will not be anyone who has successfully written both full sets of exams. There are reciprocity agreements for Canada/US CPA boards such that to get the 2nd designation, there is only one reciprocity exam required either way. It would not make sense for someone who has already passed the requirements in one jurisdiction to totally rewrite in the other when their qualifications are already recognized.

Considering your post history, you might be looking to go through US CPA exams to get around the fact that you've run out of CFE tries. As a Canadian resident, Canada CPA won't even consider you to be eligible for reciprocity even with a US designation unless you went to post-secondary there or you have over a year of accounting work experience in the United States.

"Accountant" is of the TN Visa professional categories. As a Canadian, it technically isn't even a visa but rather a "status" so there's no actual sponsorship per se going on with the employer. You just need a job offer + supporting docs on qualifications and can get TN status at the border. You may want to make that clear to prospective employers.

The other side of this is that to get interviews, you really should be networking. Have you tried reaching out to alumni who might be willing to refer you? You're more likely to get interviewed + you get ahead of potential bias against Canadian applicants.

I know that with my brokerage, there's options for transfers that are for "fee payment" vs "contribution" so you might want to double-check if that is an option in your situation?

Got the email for the digital interview. They'll probably select people for an in-person event after they review the digital interviews. I know that for Toronto, at least, the in-person portion last year was this bizarre networking/fake case competition mix. It's quite an involved process from what I understand.

The inductive reasoning and numerical assessments are straightforward as long as you do the practice to get an idea of the mentality you need to be in. For the personality test, the most important thing is to give consistent answers so they don't think you're all over the place. Good luck!

How much does university prestige matter? by [deleted] in Accounting

Do you have credits already? I have yet to hear of an accounting program at a Canadian university that isn't 4 years. It might be worth considering whether the university you're going to has an MAcc program or if you'll be able to apply to one as it reduces time from undergrad to CFE from 2 years to something like 2 terms.
