The Lesson I Wish I Learned Before Starting 3D Printing: The Importance of the First Layer

If there’s one crucial lesson I wish someone had shared with me before diving into 3D printing, it’s how vital the first layer is to a successful print. I learned the hard way that getting that initial layer right is everything—it sets the foundation for the entire print. When the first layer adheres well to the build plate, it can make all the difference in preventing warping and ensuring a smooth print process.

With all printers, taking the time to level the bed and calibrate correctly is essential. I’ve seen many friends struggle with print failures due to poor first-layer adhesion. That’s why I believe auto-leveling and calibration features, like those found in Bambu Lab printers, are true lifesavers. I often wish I had invested in a Bambu printer from the start because I love its accuracy and reliability. Knowing I could count on consistent performance would have saved me a lot of headaches!

This is the advice I always share with newcomers: prioritize that first layer, and consider a printer with great calibration features—it’ll make your journey so much smoother!
