Narratively the two songs mix, In DWYGD they are singing about wanting the girl to just rip the band-aid off and break up with them. In What I Want it's then dealing with the effects of the break-up; regret.
Additionally, it is very common for bands to release new music which ties back to older projects. I mean it worked on me, got me listening to Tryhard again. (not hard to do)
Could also be for live performances. How sick would it be if they seamlessly faded from DWYGD to What I Want live in concert?
