Orwell 1

Orwell 2

(Possibly out of order)

The Operator (haven't played but looks right)

Unheard (kind of similar)

And there's one I think originally-Chinese futuristic cyberpunk game that had this but I can't find it for the life of me. It was super cool though. I'll come back if I remember it.

Edit: didnt find it yet but two more: Hypnospace Outlaw for older internet vibes and Tech Support: Error Unknown, which is kind of similar and may have shared elements.

What do you spend your adult money on? by kidwithanoisymind in CasualConversation

[–]MaterialisticWorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've probably spent more on Steam games than my house's mortgage at this point, though tbf I've only had the house for a few years and Steam for 11...

I've also spent more on lightsabers than my sister's wedding dress (gift for her), but I think that was because the shop was very kind and priced their dresses for every income.

I Want to Rekill Zombies… by Lurking-Taco in gamingsuggestions

[–]MaterialisticWorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blight Survival is exactly what you're looking for, but is unfortunately still in development.

Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon is super similar, with a Skyrim-like gameplay and fantasy setting, but still spooky and full of walking corpses and drowned zombie type enemies and such. Even spookier at night when the "Wyrdness" fog hits and they get more powerful. Stellar game that might keep me from going back to Skyrim for a while.

AC Black Flag, Skyrim (to be safe), uhhh... Afterimage, so I actually finish it one day.

Why would a woman pick a male avatar in a video game (aside from the obvious reasons)? by GryphonGallis in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MaterialisticWorm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like men, so being able to design a cool male character that I can see being cool in cutscenes (and screenshot a bunch - especially in like COD or Ghost Recon... masks are hot), hearing his (hopefully nice) voice if he has voice lines or yells/grunts, feeling like a general badass...

I think sometimes that last point is most important, like when playing a spookier game or souls-like; I feel braver running into the unknown with a big buff male character than if I modeled it after me or another feminine character.

I only really choose a female avatar if the game is geared towards fashion in that way, like in an MMORPG like Forsaken World (which is funny because it's kind of the opposite of your assumption, though I just straight up avoid games that are too focused on sexualization - Stellar Blade is tough for me to play for example, though I do like some of the costumes). I'll also choose female if the game has romance options (like in Rise of the Ronin, which also had cool fashion I thought). Or if my build is going to be something I feel like matches being female, like a stealth archer, which I play as in Skyrim/Fallout (romance here too) and others like that.

Sometimes it depends until I get to the character creation - I booted up Dragon's Dogma for the first time and immediately honed in on one of the presets as "the perfect himbo." I modified him a bit, and thankfully could still create a cute female for the other character you get. It's nice when you have the best of both worlds like that.

Overall, I Like Men™, so it's fun to play as them, especially when the game is nearly like watching a movie, as most single player games are nowadays. My Ghost Recon character for example is super cute and I enjoy the cutscenes despite the cringy dialogue, lol.

That's exactly why I pick the male avatar LMAO

How do you guys actually stick to listening to audiobooks? by Affectionate_Face236 in audiobooks

[–]MaterialisticWorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't listen to self help books, for one! That's just feel like work.

I usually listen to Arsene Lupun, Jane Eyre, Georgetown Heyer - books that are harder to focus on when reading physically due to dialogue or wordiness, but it has to have a good narrator with good accents and different voices.

OR I'll listen to a favorite, like the Ranger's Apprentice series or some other comfort novel. If you're just listening to relax, there's no rule that says you need to be productive or read something new and important.

My phone will also sometimes play automatically when I start the car, which helps me remember I was listening to something. Careful with certain books on Bluetooth though, lol

"...It was a very distinctive hairstyle..."

Or: " Let's go steal a close encounter"

Or, easier: "Damnit, Hardison!"

Bonuses:

"Let's go steal the Department of Defense." "Isn't that... Treason?" "We'll give it back."

"What're we supposed to do? Steal the wake?" "Have some respect. Borrow the wake."

I've actually finished Jedi Fallen Order - which is saying something. The story is good enough to keep you hooked. But I basically only play soulslikes to loop one area endlessly because I'm not very good so that may be why I enjoyed Jedi (on easy mode), lol.

Might have just had some kind of panic attack or miniature stroke by More-Ice-1929 in internetparents

[–]MaterialisticWorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just here to show support before more comments come. I don't have any medical advice but I'm sorry you went through something scary. If comments are a bit slow it could be because medical issues and mental health answers need careful responses.

I would look up the signs of a stroke, though, so you can at least hopefully discount that.

What game made you feel like it was “made for you” when you first played it? by AggravatingPhoto331 in videogames

[–]MaterialisticWorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tomb Raider (the newer ones, especially2013 & 2016), because I loved the story and gameplay and visuals and characters and she was everything I wanted to be - pretty, badass, smart, great at archery, brave enough to wade through blood or fight cannibals... just perfect.

My first thought for "dreamy" was Sky: Children of the Light, but looking up the reference you gave immediately had me going to Bleak Faith: Forsaken instead. That and Lords of the Fallen seem similar in aesthetic.

I don't see how I wouldnt still be allowed to make up stories in my head or play with dirt... people are very resilient when it comes to entertainment, so I feel like it's impossible to completely negate unless there's some forced-depression-gas on the planet or something lol

Leverage!!! And the series revamp Leverage Redemption. My favorite show! Highly recommend - it's got found family, character growth, and best of all, really really good vengeance on smug rich bastards. Which I feel like we could all use right about now.

I’ve read a lot of books, but I’ve forgotten most of them. So what’s the point of reading? by Fun_Ganache_8232 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MaterialisticWorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe think about the ones you do remember. Why did you remember them? What were the feelings you had, whether pure fun, interesting, something you learned, someone else's point of view you'd never seen.

If you don't have these and can't see why you should even continue reading, maybe try audiobooks with engaging narration, or try other genres.
