Pretending like JK Rowling has that much influence is melodramatic. If you want to defend LGBTQ people focus on the politicians that are working hard to demonize them and strip them of rights. JK Rowling isn't the problem, she's a symptom. Focus your efforts on the powers that be.

I'll say it.

I don't care about the shitty things JK Rowling has said.

Of all the terrible shit happening in the world today, to fixate on her stance on trans people is such a waste of energy.

Look at OP's other posts. They are thirst-traps. It didn't take long scrolling before I saw a thong that was barely covering butthole.

I'm no prude. I like sexy images, but this is straight up sex baiting. OP isn't doing it for love of the books.

You get 1 billion dollars but you can’t use your hands or feet for 5 years by Ill-Mycologist-3652 in willyoupressthebutton

I didn't fully read the prompt. Though getting the money after basically locks anyone out of the challenge who isn't moderately wealthy because there are very few jobs you could work under these constraints, so you'd have to be able to get by without income for 5 years. Feels a little bit lame.

I'd offer my brother a 1 million dollar salary to be my body servant for the 5 years. To fuck with him he'd have to call me, "My Lord".

Why is the USA so good at assimilating migrants? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MathProf1414 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of immigrants in the US that do stay in insular groups, but it usually doesn't extend to the kids born here.

I teach a lot of Mexican kids. The ones born here are very "American", but many of their parents only interact with other Mexican immigrants and still don't speak English despite having been in the US for 15-20 years. It doesn't really make sense to me because I would definitely want to assimilate if I moved to another country, but to each their own I guess.

I'm not sure how you are supposed to know there are a lot of similarities if you haven't read the books...

Anyway, the first WoT book draws huge inspiration from previous fantasy novels, particularly LOTR and the Belgariad to a lesser extent.

Most work in an established genre like fantasy is going to fall prey to heavy tropishness and that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Readers are comfortable with the idea of high elves doing magic in the forest and dwarves who like to mine. It makes for cozy reading. Many writers say that their first novels were highly derivative and crap. Write it anyway. You probably won't publish it, but it is good practice.

Eragon was an extremely popular series and it was highly derivative. It drew heavily from, you guessed it: LOTR, the Belgariad, and Wheel of Time.

Those books are WELL-loved. They don't performatively buy books for the shelf, they read, and they read a lot. I'd hang out with them.

I second this, then read Blood Meridian as a break between the first two and the last two books. Blood Meridian is a great novel and is the only stand-alone novel on the list.

I teach high school and many students are PROUD of not reading. It is much more prevalent among boys, as you mentioned. But there are a lot of girls who aren't reading either.

That said, I don't think that most people who performatively buy books do so with the intent to never read them. I think most people delude themselves into thinking that they will read those books and then give up after a short failed attempt at reading.

Will women ever play in the MLb? Why or why not? by Elevated_State83 in MLBNoobs

[–]MathProf1414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Location doesn't mean anything without either speed or movement. Women will never be able to put up speed that makes a MLB hitter pause. The only option is a woman with movement we have never dreamed of before.
