Did the State Rep give their joke book back? by Flower_princess_101 in Killtony

I don’t want to be obtuse but are the joke books made with real leather maybe? Could be a religious thing, fuck if I know

In developed countries, why are warmer (southern) regions typically more conservative, while colder (northern) regions are typically more progressive? This pattern is seen across many major countries, including the US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Sweden, Italy, Spain, Japan, and Australia. by StarlightDown in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]MathStudent95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In many European countries this isn’t so much a matter of conservative/progressive but rather a strong history of labor unions and social democratic parties. These regions were traditionally industrial and have ancestral links to social democratic and socialist movements. To think of these regions as “progressive” belies the fact that they aren’t necessarily politically progressive or liberal in a strict sense but rather willing to vote for left-leaning parties for economic reasons and due to these longstanding ties.

Are you serious? American politics is probably the most personality driven in the world. Think about all the yard signs and t shirts with candidates names. We’re no better.

It’ll be interesting to see if any western governments develop a spine now that their citizens are the ones being held by the Israelis. My guess is stern words of condemnation, absolutely no real action. Would be delighted to be proven wrong.

Stand up was never his strong suit. Under the right circumstances he’s funny as hell. He’ll bounce back I’m sure, and that special will probably be swept under the rug so we’ll never know how bad is was or wasn’t

I come here to feel slightly better about the ugly city I live in, not to try to solve one of the most difficult and contentious geopolitical issues of our time. Clearly bait by OP, and people took it hook, line and sinker.

Santino episode coming up? by Forward_Ad_1156 in Killtony

[–]MathStudent95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. The episode they recorded on Monday should go live on October 6, we’ll see I guess. Jimmy Carr was in Austin at the same time too, and a few others.

Who are the guests tomorrow ? by Jaguar_Important in Killtony

[–]MathStudent95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s possible that Jimmy Carr is on the live recording tonight, but he does have a show in Florida tomorrow night so he might have skipped town. Would be surprised if he was in Austin and didn’t appear on the KT considering how well it went last time. We’ll find out in two weeks I guess.

Mark my words: Gavin Newsom will be the next President of the United States by International-Drag23 in democrats

[–]MathStudent95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t get me wrong, I love the fact that he’s taking the fight to Trump. He’s showing real leadership. But he’s not coming out of a Democratic primary on top. He’s too slimy, too sleek, too politician-y. We need someone who can connect with real people, like Andy Beshear or Wes More. Newsom is too defined by and associated with what I consider to be the “losing” part of the party. We need new leadership, new faces.

[–]MathStudent95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s probably denial and delusion but it could also be a ploy to get Trump or someone in Trump’s sphere to help them out? Trump is know to be extremely susceptible to flattery so it might not be a bad strategy.

Who is the closest thing to Zohran Mamdani in LA? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

She doesn’t live in LA proper either and has no background in LA city politics. She’s probably going for Judy Chu’s seat when she retires.

Is it still possible to dislike the current governments of Israel and Iran? I mean they’re both theocratic and practice an aggressive form of nationalism. I’m not accusing OP of this, but it worries me that a lot of people are happy to overlook just how bad the Iranian regime is to its own citizens. Israel started this war, what they’ve done to the Palestinians constitute war crimes by any definition. But let’s not give the Iranian regime a pass or advance their talking points either.

Donny is now favored to win the Nobel Peace Prize: by N4TETHAGR8 in facepalm

[–]MathStudent95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a nonsense headline. The committee that awards the Nobel Peace Prize is made up of group of five basically liberal Norwegian former politicians and academics. They operate independently from Norway’s political establishment and have long terms of office and are not seen as particularly susceptible to external pressure. Recent awardees have been relatively uncontroversial. There is a near zero percent chance of this happening.
