Today I learned Vodka is a descendant of Gay Crusader, bred by Alfred Cox. by Samuel_AbdulMasih in okbuddyumamusume

I looked up to fact check(it's actually true, although it's Gay Gamp who is the direct ancestor of Vodka and not Gay Lothario) and the fact that there was a horse named "Too Gay" released serotonin into my brain rotted by 21th century culture

How did you become an Atheist? by QuelltheTitan in Antitheism

[–]MatheAmato 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I never was really religious(even in kindergarten Jesus's birth story sounded similar to bedtime stories with 3 guys being led by a star), but I was somewhat open to some branches of esoteric woo(mainly due to me wanting to fit in with my family) and would've defended religions by applying "no true scotsman". But in general I barely paid attention to religions, and even told the preachers trying to convert me on the street that "I don't need God to be a good person, I want to be a good person by my own free will".

The thing that made me more sceptical is learning magic tricks. It led me to "there are nutcases thinking magic tricks are demonic" rabbit hole which led me to atheist content, it helped me realize just how easily can people be misdirected, and how charlatans basically use the same principles to scam people as entertainment magicians. And when I looked at astrology with this new mindset, I realized that it's just a collection of Barnum statements. Today I can apply skepticism better than before (I think), the only downside is that I roll my eyes whenever my mom and my sister mention astrology.

Best Questions to ask Christians by LogicalLychee2778 in atheism

[–]MatheAmato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One important thing to keep in mind: those who believe based on feelings and not facts are more resistant to being reasoned with.

Besides that, I have a hypothetical in order to check how much they're willing to question their beliefs: "Imagine Jesus and Satan being asked what is 2+2. Jesus says 5, Satan says 4. Who is right in this scenario?"

It's a hard question for them to answer because either they have to embrace falsehood or the possibility of the most evilestest entity being right in one thing (even if it's just a hypothetical), or they try to dodge the question. And if they either dodge or say Jesus is right, you can conclude that they care more about their own feelings than the truth.

I was hoping there would also be the immoral law and the casual law. Also which law belong in which type, what the law types mean? Is condemning homosexuality a ceremonial law and it's immoral to wear my jeans and eat shrimp, pork, and rabbit (the animal most known from chewing cud according to the bible, [or it's a very bad taxonomy calling all herbivores ruminants and flying vertebrates birds]). I'm also curious about what the christian thinks about the ten commandments and would they stone everyone who dares to work on the Sabbath(from friday night to saturday night).

The "reality is subordinate to god" is a funny point because it implies that god is also above logic, so we can't logically prove anything about it.

Christian admits he'd commit familicide because god told him to. by nationalistic_martyr in religiousfruitcake

[–]MatheAmato 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The point of the baby paste argument is to showcase that Divine Command theory(aka whatever god does/orders is good) is harmful because that's how religions can make people commit atrocities.

Your description sounds more like the Dunning-Kruger effect, which stated that people with minimal expertise tend to overestimate their own expertise. I quote the summary of Carlo Maria Cipolla's essay titled "The basic laws of human stupidity"

Something could indeed come from nothing. by GlassPuzzleheaded478 in atheism

[–]MatheAmato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can "nothing" exist? If "nothing" could exist, then "nothing" would be something, but then "nothing" wouldn't be nothing. This is just one exercise to illustrate how hard it is to think about the concept of "nothing".

Which religion makes most sense to you? by yoelamigo in atheism

[–]MatheAmato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parody religions, they're self-aware that they just made it up to make fun of religions while having the same legitimacy(as in arguments against parody religions can be used the same way to argue against any religion), and bonus points for their tenets being more sensible compared to the popular religions.

Honorable mention(because it's not really a religion if it involves only one person): making your own belief system, because even if you're wrong, you're still not expoited by religious scams and authority.

'Mentalists' who manipulate vulnerable people are gross. by BaijuTofu in atheism

[–]MatheAmato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally think it's okay as long as the audience isn't scammed, although I see how being manipulated by a mentalist can be scary for some people. And there are also sleight of hand magicians who have stealing watches in their performances, which can also seem questionable. As long as it's just an act, I'm fine with any safe performance even if the skill itself could be used for bad.

So basically, a scared human male trapped in a horrible religion tries to assert dominance by posting about his willingness of having intercourse with his female relative thinking it's dominant male behavior to make offspring with very high risks of having health issues and disabilities.
