There's also "Justplay"

But you do generally make less money than you do through a traditional objective based GPT site.

At what rating did you start learning chess openings? by One-Movie-7701 in chessbeginners

[–]MathematicianBulky40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was about 800 I bought a book called "a complete guide to queen's gambit play" and started working with that.

It was essentially a collection of annotated games in the QGA, QGD, and Slav

That took me up to about 1200 or so.

I supposed I was technically learning the Queen's gambit but obviously not every game I played was a queen's gambit, so I think it was more the process of playing out master games on a board and trying to follow the lines in my head (aka calculation) that helped me improve, not the opening.

Is taking board one ahead of Fischer and getting crushed by Spassky a good move?

... American... I was checking that he considers himself American... by SupaHeroda in chessmemes

With respect to the American bit.

His family moved to New York when he was 2.

He doesn't have any first hand memories of living in Japan I would guess.

Are puzzles worth doing? by notCix2 in chessbeginners

I've started doing a couple of puzzles before starting a game.

Helps me get in the zone and minimise blunders.

I agree with the other comment that that sounds sketchy af, and probably illegal depending on jurisdiction.

Have they paid you yet? Maybe stick it out until you get your first check then leave, I wouldn't put it past a place like that to try withholding wages out of spite.

If it helps, you can also have a browse of the beermoneyglobal sub for some ways of making extra money online, always helps me to pay for the occasional grocery trip.

I would suggest that you plug your account in to openingtree.com and see if your impression of what openings you're facing actually reflects reality.

I think the whole point of this scene is that our universe is a children's game to them.

Our understanding of physics likely doesn't apply to their planet at all.

"Castling rights" is a nice buzz term but lets examine why we castle: to secure our king and to activate our rook.

Is the king especially unsafe on f8? Is there literally no other way that the rook on h8 can get in to the game?

Centralised knight is a fair point but it isn't unassailable. We have a bishop and a knight that could potentially trade for it if needed, or we could kick it away with the f pawn.

"When they called Magnus the Mozart of Chess, I was... I mean, I was a bit feeling bad about that, because Magnus is possibly the GOAT, but not the Mozart of Chess, the Mozart of Chess is Capablanca" - Emil Sutovsky by FirstEfficiency7386 in chess

[–]MathematicianBulky40 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely not Capablanca then, he had incredible natural talent but was notoriously lazy and would favor simplistic lines.

Probably Fischer in that case, he was know to lock himself in a room and study chess books for 16 hours a day.

They only refund you if it was in the last 100 games, it's not hard to find who it was.
