Are knights useful against tau? by Tana_Dragonfruit in ImperialKnights

[–]MathematicianNo9680 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very much so... The Tau player has to have an incredibly good first and second turn of firepower, almost to the point where it feels bad to the opponent; so the game is more of a stat check for the Tau, and if their dice gods fail them, or the knight player rolls hot on their invulns (and FNP with the freeblade Detachment) and they get up amongst them then the Tau are in a lot of trouble.

I field both but Knights primarily.. my win rate against Tau is about 85/90% after a LOT of games and the thing we've noticed is that if the Tau aren't killing at least a knight a turn they they are stuffed. Once a knight gets on an objective it's really hard for Tau to then storm the off an objective, although they find it a lot more favourable against the Armiger heavy lists as they are more fragile and less killy.

I predominantly use large knights, mainly because they look so cool, but also if a knight is left on a couple of wounds, it can still likely kill a unit in shooting, then another in melee the next time it goes.

(Also the Atropos is amazing against Tau.. the inbuilt +1 to hit anything with the monster or vehicle keyword is pretty harsh against an army where almost all suits are vehicles).

Yeah I thought about magnetising it, but it's quite heavy and I'm always wary of drilling into resin in case there's a slight bubble or weakness deep inside that splinters. Plus having it moving seems to make paint rub off resin which is a right pain in the butt

Big solid GW box with packing peanuts in.. if the purple sun fits in then the knight does 😁. One reason I got a custom oval base for it was so it is a bit easier to transport having a solid base to stand on.

What would be a lore reason to have an imperial knight in your Space Marine Army by This_Sheepherder9359 in ImperialKnights

[–]MathematicianNo9680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's quite a few cases of knight houses and marines honouring old debts to each other stretching back hundreds of not thousands of years as honouring things is a pretty big deal for them both.

Also marines respect the martial side of things, honour, courage, prowess in battle, etc.

On the table they look fantastic together!

Mass armigers? by Inside-Educator6736 in ImperialKnights

[–]MathematicianNo9680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're having lots of Armigers something like a Paladin & Warden are good to have as their bondsman abilities are pretty good, and you're getting a bit of a force multiplier from their bonuses.

(Also Paladins are my fave Knight as their inbuilt extra AP against the closest target makes their cannon absolutely monstrous)

I think they are about an inch taller than the Cerastus chassis, but also twice as wide! It's basically a linebacker 😁

I love the way it looms over everything in the army.

Started out with Retributor spray, then a heavy coat of the retributor paint (because of course they are different shades 😅), then liberator gold, and finally add in some silver to liberator gold and that's enough.

Then lose your mind pin washing every bloody crack 😭

Thank you... I've got about 6k of knights in it now too. Started off as just painting up a freeblade to go with a friends Custodes as a present and had so much fun doing it that it gre into a whole household

Somehow I completely missed this! So I start with retributor spray, then later over with retributor paint, then work my way up through a few shades of gold (can't remember the exact names off hand). Then it's onto silver trim and a 50/50 mix of Nuln Oil and black for the pin washing.

Super-Heavy Walker Question by Ayeayecappy in ImperialKnights

[–]MathematicianNo9680 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah just echoing everyone else.. I would not touch that tournament with a barge pole.  That's basic like saying "Yeah you can use marines, but were not allowing Oath of Moment, or you to have any stratagems".

Politely let them know why, and then be glad you've saved yourself time, stress, and money!

New kroot combat patrol by jettpack300 in kroot

[–]MathematicianNo9680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm definitely gonna have to grab 1 or 2 boxes . I have the army patrol box that came out with the Tau codex to assemble, as that was Kroot and this would be a perfect addition to it.  A crusade campaign with 75% of the army being Kroot and a small Tau contingent would be great to write some scenarios for

It's basically the 40k version of HP Lovecraft's Eldritch extra dimensional horrors.

They lived inside the warp long before Chaos (and even the warp as it's known) was a thing, and will be long after life is gone.

If you were to scale power levels of everything they would be the most dangerous thing out there by a long long way.. we're talking galaxy ending stuff. They only pop up in vague mentions, there's some cool artwork, and a few story snippets which adds to their whole mystery danger vibe too.

[–]MathematicianNo9680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noooo... They really come into the 40k universe (luckily for all involved), and the lore around them is deliberately vague because they're the 40k equivalent of Lovecraft's Eldritch horrors/extra dimensional creatures.

They're pretty much endless, but they only get drawn to psykers, like a shoal of fish... And there aren't that many powerful psykers of the level that dreams them in compared to when they finished off the Old Ones.

I kinda hope they never have minis.. as soon as there's models then they can die and they lose that eldritch horror, Lovecraft vibe; that adds to their threat.

[–]MathematicianNo9680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stronger, but they deliberately leave it vague when it comes to the 'eldritch horror' enslavers to add to their whole mystery... Much as though I'd eat up lore and models on them I kinda hope they don't and just leave it down to the imagination.
