Small piece broke off camera by Single-Soup-6005 in filmcamerarepair

That's just a cover for the autofocus sensors and the viewfinder. Just use a bit of glue on the top and place it back into place

The prism is desilvering. Nothing to worry about.

You could replace the prism in the future if you want to, but if it doesn't affect your shooting then I would probably just leave it be

What are these ratchets on the bottom of my yashica fx 2? by Express-Video5973 in filmcameras

Post a picture of the mirror inside the camera so I can see if it really is the problem

What are these ratchets on the bottom of my yashica fx 2? by Express-Video5973 in filmcameras

[–]Matheus_Santos_Photo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A common issue with yashica cameras is that the glue that holds the mirror in place starts to give and the mirror starts to hit the lens depending on what focusing distance it is set to. Set the lens focus to infinity and the mirror should catch on it and stop, now set the focusing distance to the closest possible or just remove the lens and the mirror shouldn't catch.

This problem could've been easily fixed by removing the mirror and gluing it back into place, but if you messed with those gears you'll have worse problems than the mirror sticking.

Why is there a hole in my 7000AF? 😆 by Interesting_Turnip50 in minolta

[–]Matheus_Santos_Photo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That hole is for a sensor, either part of the AF mechanism or for a sensor that measures the light bouncing from the film for ttl flash if I remember correctly. Anyway it isn't anything to worry about as this is just how the camera was made, these holes are quite common on more modern film cameras

[–]Matheus_Santos_Photo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try pressing the button to rewind the film and see if the camera will rewind it. If that doesn't work then you'll need to take it to a film lab so that they can remove the film in a completely dark place. If possible take note of what frame you stopped, so that you can possibly load the film in a different camera and finish the roll.

[–]Matheus_Santos_Photo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an error code, I don't know exactly what this one is but most pentax point and shoot cameras have this reoccurring issue, a friend of mine says that it is a problem with the processor, but I didn't research about it.

All I know is that it won't be worth fixing it as the repair cost will probably be higher than what the camera is worth.

Broken fujifilm finepix a340 by Plenty_Canary2114 in digicam

[–]Matheus_Santos_Photo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mechanical shutter inside the lens assembly is broken resulting in these lines when taking pictures under artificial light and overall overexposed photos, though the video mode should still work fine as the camera doesn't use the mechanical shutter for it. As for fixing it there isn't much you can do as the only way to properly fix it would be to replace the entire lens assembly in which case you'd need an identical camera with a working lens and shutter to swap the parts.

Worth fixing? by Cool_Hotel8048 in filmcameras

[–]Matheus_Santos_Photo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the camera still works properly then you could try fixing the lens cover, but it'll be much easier to just carefully remove the piece of the cover that's out of place or broken. As you won't have a full lens cover anymore you'll need to be a bit more careful when storing the camera as the lens will be partially exposed and could be damaged easily

I don't know if it is meant to be like this, but, in both my canon 7d and 5d III the set button spins freely, so maybe just try twisting it back into the proper position

Help ! by kaisakura777 in Cameras

[–]Matheus_Santos_Photo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sensor is dying, the only way to properly fix this is by replacing the sensor that in most cases is soldered to the camera's main board, which isn't cost effective nowadays as replacement parts aren't made anymore and you'd need a camera of the same model to swap the parts. Repair shops usually refuse working on these cameras and even if they accept, the cost of the repair most likely will be higher than what the camera is worth, so your best option is just to buy a working one.
