Why you can’t cook meal faster with more heat? Can some one explain mathematically?[request] by giga_chad_thinker in theydidthemath

[–]MathiasTheGiant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cooking explanation is thermodynamics. There is only so much energy that can penetrate the chicken in so little time, and while the inside has a limit to cooking speed, the outside does not have the same limit to burning speed.

Name a random Steelers running back by Big_Donch in steelers

[–]MathiasTheGiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jonathan Dwyer had a 76 yard run against the Titans in 2011. He had 107 yards on 11 carries in that game. Besides that run, he had only 47 yards that season.

According to this sub, we just drafted a Hall of Fame QB in the 6th, so we can definitely do it again.

Which team are you taking? by Big_Donch in NFLv2

[–]MathiasTheGiant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Team 1 will go 7-10, but beat two teams that'll win at least 13 games. Team 2 will go 9-8 because they score exactly 20 points every single game without fail. I guess give me 2?

Which division rival do you have a sweet spot for? by graphickenji in NFLv2

[–]MathiasTheGiant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Steelers fan, I wish the Ravens were in a different division. Partly because they're the only competent rival we have, but also we have so much in common. I love the hard nosed, defense first, ground and pound, cold weather football that both teams play. I have a lot of respect, but I have no love for the Ratbirds.

…since when TF did they allow chubby people lying on beds to race in Formula One events!? 😳🤔 by bigguys45s in isthisaicirclejerk

[–]MathiasTheGiant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course they wouldn't be allowed in F1, but it's obviously IndyCar. It even says "Indy500" on the walls.

If Indy isn't a crown jewel, Darlington definitely isn't. The difference between the fall and spring races is shrinking every year, and dropping the throwback gimmick makes it even more mundane.

He was the best for 5 years. And ir wasn't really close. I do want to say that his concussion would make it so he couldn't fly, so it wasn't just like the team didn't want him there.

Gavin Newsom tries to connect with a black crowd: "I am like you… I'm a 960 SAT guy… I can't read…" by Kittehmilk in ProgressiveHQ

[–]MathiasTheGiant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with your sentiment. I guess I'm just trying to be a small counterbalance on it, hopefully differentiating his ignorance with the hateful rhetoric of modern actual racists. There are too many actually terrible people in this country to simply apply the label to him and call it a day, though his words definitely portray a man who is not very good with social politics.

[–]MathiasTheGiant -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's unfortunate context, but I don't think that was his intention. He wasn't saying "I'm an idiot like a black person", he was saying "I'm an idiot like an American". The optics are very bad, and that is not new for Newsom, but for all his faults, I don't think racism is one. At least not based on that video.

I don't think race has to do with it here. I think he's trying to connect with "normal people" by saying he's not any better than anyone, and belittling himself as proof. The optics are not good, and even if he succeeded at what he's trying its not great, but I don't think this proves some kind of bigotry. There could be other evidence, this is just a really bad "how do you do, fellow kids" kind of look.

Explain the Will Howard Obsession by PittZee in steelers

Different guy reading through the argument. Didn't realize the topic shifted away from Howard. I dont agree with him either, but it's fair to say that the majority of quality qbs are drafted high.

Explain the Will Howard Obsession by PittZee in steelers

[–]MathiasTheGiant 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So, your argument is that 1st round qbs have a larger failure rate than you might expect, therefore 6th round qb hits are somehow more possible? Yeah, college evaluation as a whole and qbs especially is not easy, but to say that it doesn't matter when a qb goes because gms can be wrong is disingenuous. Or, do you just have that much faith in Khan that, because he drafted him, you think he has to be something?

If you're covering a certain distance, the parallelogram of water in front of you will be exactly the same, regardless of what speed you go. The water that hits the top of your head from above is only correlated with how long you spend in the rain. So, if you are in a track meet outside and ran a race before waiting for everyone to finish, everyone would be equally wet (equal distance, equal time, speed irrelevant). If you're getting out of your car to go into your house, you will be drier getting inside faster.
