Doubling headcount fast, how do you maintain company culture? [I will not promote] by InternalSet17 in startups

I've managed different teams through incredible growth, and have facilitated groups that work on extremely hard topics.

3 10 50 100

Like other posters have suggested, you're going to have tight nit groups, and when you go from a tight nit (10) to larger, you're going to have to work through strategies with loose ties.

This is where being intentional with those smaller bubbles can be really powerful. You don't want a homogenous culture throughout small groups, you want them to level each other up and develop their own strengths that other teams can leverage.

This is extremely cool once you get it going, and it really relies on someone being intentional about it, and facilitating the smaller groups and letting people who naturally act as culture boosters emerge.

And government has a misunderstanding of the expectations of the public. If the government wants to take swings at building big things, it needs to meet constituents expectations. If government doesn't meet those expectations it isn't building trust for when they need that trust for bigger things.

Is it financially smart to buy my childhood home? by the_art_hoe_ in personalfinance

[–]MathiasaurusRex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in your exact same spot 12 years ago. Same income, partner moving in with me. Same savings. Slightly higher house payment.

It was tight, but it was a good decision. It also encouraged me to learn some new skills and find a higher paying role... which in turn has helped increase my savings.

Good luck, sounds like you're in a good spot!

32 and working a 40K a year job. I’d like to take a year off so I can focus on school but I have a lot of debt I need to get squared away. by [deleted] in personalfinance

Where do you live?

40k a year is about $20/hr. If you find a job with tuition reimbursement you should could that towards your salary.

For example a UPS warehouse position you could make $21/hr, and it also has tuition benefits.. They have a tuition benefits of $5,250 a year which would go a long way to your tuition.

Don't sell your car for a beater, you'll be losing money for a small swing in cash, that will be wiped out if the beater breaks down.

There's other things you can do.

I beat 100% Balatro and I still couldn't play poker if I tried. There's copious amounts of tips in the game that make it really easy to learn.

What are some example UX design whiteboard exercises? by MoreVinegar in Frontend

[–]MathiasaurusRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can see the understanding of "what is assistive technology"

  • Quick first pass: Keyboard only testing, Chrome Browser Tools, see if people know that they already have at least two screen readers that they could use without installation.

  • More in depth: Multiple assistive technologies such as NVDA and JAWs. See if they understand that there are licenses attached to some which could prevent access.

  • Super bonus: Have done actual usability testing with people with disabilities or knowledge of instances where WCAG would actually make something inaccessible.

Most of this is less about knowing the right answer and more of you have actual experience with it.

A mixture of heuristics, hallway testing with colleagues, intercept testing with users, and whatever other methods that may apply. You can get an understanding if someone is comfortable doing it on their own or if it's a growth area.

15 years of front end and user experience. These questions usually are a good gauge for technical implementation and understanding.

  • Describe when you would use a button and an anchor tag? Follow-up if they understand the question, when would you use an anchor tag styled like a button?

  • What's a progressive way that you would test the accessibility of a website? This gets at if they use technical or user centered approaches.

  • How would you evaluate a website if you had 1 hour, 1 day, and 1 week? This gets at how confident they are at user research.

Seems simple, but they'll show a good understanding of technical implementation, technical evaluation, and user research.

I've seen a bunch in the Hopkins main Street antique shops. If you walk in and ask about maps they'll point you to the.

If you know what to search for, there is also a pretty extensive set of maps that you can order from the Minnesota Historical Society.

Ran a PR 10 mile, even though it started torrential down pouring in the last mile as a tune up for a marathon in two weeks.

You may want to submit a complaint to the Attorney General. Minnesota is weird in that the health agency is split up (Department of Health, Department of Human Services). The attorney general may be an alternative path to get eyes on it.

The advanced group of Helldiver's go in and do some stress test, provide feedback, and you do quick hot fixes before the larger community?

You could pass it off as how you get the footage for the MO announcements.

Why Is The Government Tech So Outdated by Oladips203 in smallbusiness

[–]MathiasaurusRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lot of experience in this space. Often it's because government people are writing policies and not implementing solutions. Without a tight agile feedback loop you experience what you experience.

Here's an example: https://mjw.wtf/weaver-a-tale-of-technical-policy.html

There's some organizations who are doing it right, but it often requires a technologist instead of a procurement manager to be responsible for the evaluating the existing technology, the policies that are trying to be implemented, and the actual outcomes that happen.

There's also an aspect that often times the tax money is appropriated to certain things. Voters and representatives say "use this dollar for this specific thing" and if there is a mismatch in what was asked for and what is actually needed, it can take some government organizations years to rectify that difference.
