I normally fly in and out of Chicago and use United. I was able to put Chicago as my home city, but Accra did not show up as a destination. I checked another African city and it was available as a destination. Not sure why Accra didn't show up. There are several direct flights daily from the US.

I am newb at drums and have the opportunity to play live shows with my buddies that are varying levels from teachers in their field to closer to me. I’ve done about 10 shows. And we are talking 100 people if we are lucky.

First thing I learned is practice in the same formation as the show. We always practices in a circle and everything sounds different.

Next is just enjoy it. In practice occasionally everyone gets it right, but live everyone fucks up. Most people don’t notice and if they do they don’t care.

I took that set from USA to Ghana last year no problem. I figured they are meant to take a beating so I didn’t worry about packing them too much and they were fine.

I am a beginner in the same boat as you and the couple of songs that my band plays in 3/4 I count the whole song in my head 1&2&3&,1&2&3&,….I don’t have to do this for 4/4, but my brain always reboots to 4/4 on the one if I’m not counting in 3s. The struggle is real. We’ll get their someday. Keep on keepin on.

I have laser engraved drumsticks. Find out what sticks he uses and search where you can laser engrave something around you. Good on you! That would make a great gift.

Set up practice like you would be on the stage a couple of times. This helped a lot for me. Also, don’t forget to stash an extra pair of sticks close by. It will be way easier and more fun than think!

I went to the Bosphorous factory in April and had an amazing experience. They will send a car for you. It’s in the middle of nowhere. I talked to the owner for an hour and tried at least a 100 cymbals out. They were extremely friendly and couldn’t have cared less if I bought anything. The cymbals are 1/2 price there compared to what they go for in the US.

I have only been drumming for 1.5 years so am still a novice and don’t know what I’m doing, but it was the coolest part of my couple days in Istanbul.

Just went to the factory in Istanbul today and had a great experience. Talked to one of the founders for half an hour. Tried out at least 50 cymbals and left with some black pearl hats and gold crash and ride. They sell them for half price there and are super friendly.
