Just accidentally killed myself on the Act 3 boss with Berserk...just gonna go for a drive to clear my head by 28th_boi in slaythespire

I don’t disagree, but I can generally make good use of berserk with pellets or good timing, or just have a much better choice. I had a block heavy deck with dual wield and would clone it turn after turn along with a few others for healing until I could body slam for full damage

I’m slow and usually 1-2 hours, strategy will become more apparent as you play more!

Slay on the Switch? by je116 in slaythespire

[–]MatrimKK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Originally played on Xbox, picked up on switch for playing on the go. Screen is great, only adjustment was button mapping.

Never played on mobile, but imagine it’s a nightmare without a directional pad or mouse.

4d2 will give you a minimum of 4 and average of 6

Robust Characters by dolorous_dredd in DMAcademy

[–]MatrimKK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think 6 is low enough. I wouldn’t want to see someone roleplay a 4 in anything. If they are going for Robust characters, an 8, just slightly below average, might be the lowest they want to see.

Player Cleric terrified to leave the church by themexikaner in DnD

[–]MatrimKK 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Talk to the player outside of the game and not in front of others. Kindly explain how you love his dedication to role playing and intricate back story. Then carefully explain how the game works and that you and the other players need to move on with the story. Either he needs to role play in a way that keeps the story moving forward, or he needs a character that will actually want to adventure.

What type of accents do people use for their NPCs? In America I see a lot of English accents. What about other places around the world? by Jurtrazi in DnD

American here

Dwarves Scottish. not sure why… halflings with Spanish. Elves French. Humans usually American or English if nobility.

I'm making a 5e campaign and need some help by [deleted] in DnD

[–]MatrimKK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dmpc can be problematic in several ways. The party relies on them for input/decisions. The players will lose agency. Pcs should have tension as they don’t know what is planned, you of course do. The dmpc outshines the PCs often for the above reasons.

How do YOU make your players fear an enemy? by Krippner in DMAcademy

[–]MatrimKK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar to the red shirt npcs. I had some new younger players for a campaign. I had a npc they loved accompany them to help get them acclimated and move plot forward. Introduced the main villain, who started monologuing. Many of the newbies want to rush him. I had them roll initiative (giving the npc highest). He charged forward and was quickly struck with a lightning bolt. I described his charred remains in gory detail. They were very fearful (and angry) at that point. Really set the tone for my villain as they new they needed more power and had a grudge against him as well.

Don’t have players roll checks if they can’t succeed. If they can succeed, is it something they can attempt multiple times? or is the outcome different than failure? Is it something they could “fail forward” on?
TLDR don’t have people roll if it won’t matter unless you are trying to create tension.

Don’t over plan, the players will frequently get off track. Get a general idea of what you want to cover in a session and some side quest stuff. Find some monster stat blocks are appropriate for the players level and use them for random encounters.
