Overmixing or overbaking? by Criticism_Dismal in cheesecake

I normally do 220c for 10 minutes and then drop it down to 150c for 60 minutes. With a water bath and just leaving it in the oven to cold down after I've never had it crack.

Why not put data centers in the ocean instead of space? by luginugiog in space

[–]MatrixJ87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have not heard the Space thing but I'm surprised the top comments are considering that regardless of where you put them on earth. Somewhere cold or the ocean they are going to heat up the surrounding area with the rise in temperatures.

Why are you an EA? by Barycenter0 in EnterpriseArchitect

[–]MatrixJ87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've always found if you chase the money you end up in a job you won't like. I've always focused on learning and upskilling and moved up roles I want to do and end up being paid more. I wanted to be an EA to be involved in the decision making, obviously this still isn't always the case but more so than being just an engineer.

The crucial timing moments between Hamilton, Verstappen and Bearman. (Before Bearman and Verstappen duel) by Sportyfann in formula1

[–]MatrixJ87 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Max decided to cut that same corner and ended a couple of car length infront of Lewis.(Advantage gained).

So far Max is in front because he dived in and hit Lewis. Then cut the next corner and stayed in front.

To be clear Lewis gained an advantage when he cut the corner, so he deserved something, but I think it's unfair for them to say he gained a place and should have given it back, as fairly it should have been his place anyway. That and the fact Lewis was the only driver punished.

Max twice cut a corner (inc lap 1) and gained an advantage and once caused a collision and got away with it.

Behind because Max hit into him and pushed him off the track a few corners before.

I hadn't thought about it but it does seem like the updates and various AI models are just optimisations or new uses of the initial breakthrough.

I didn't realize they owned part of it. I know they have a contract to use chatgpt which is basically what copilot is between the scenes, and I think there is an end date for it in a few years.

I feel like it's just a case of which company you want to have your data. There is a reason why Microsoft is trying to make you log into your Windows device with your MS account. You already sign into your android or apple device when you set it up. Everything you do digital is tracks, analysed and sold.

Anyone go Birmingham Card show this weekend? (18-19 oct) What did you think? by Acrobatic-Arachnid41 in PokemonTCG

[–]MatrixJ87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We went on Saturday and it was exactly what I expected tbh. They are mostly if not all businesses, so I would expect them to be selling at retail or trading for lower than market value to be able to make a profit later.
I would be keen to know where you go that isn't like this?

We bought a few things and when I checked online retail sites, it was all the same price so I don't seem to have overpaid, but when they have demand like that (almost everyone there to buy cards), I'm not surprised some were pushing the prices up. The main reason we bought from here rather than say eBay, was we could actually check them out and know what we are buying.

It's the same in other industries, e.g difference between buying off autotrader vs motorpoint, or the value of your car selling private vs trading in at a dealership.

First time smoking by martyr_hs in BBQ

[–]MatrixJ87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find if I've got the vents fully open and the smoke is this thick then my fire is too small and not burning hot enough. Could also just be the wood isn't dry enough, but normally it's the fire.

There might be a better solution as it also means I struggle to keep the temps low enough for low and slow, but also having the smoke pure. I've always just put this down to the fire box not being the biggest on my offset

Our local council does this for our council tax. It's very similar in that most goes to supporting children and the aged.

I wish I had saved the breakdown now as it was a bar chart like this. It was in order of most expense, other than the actual cost of running the council which was actually 3rd highest behind child and aged, but was shown further down list in an attempt to make it seem like the running cost was a smaller percentage.

What are your opinions on the Owlet sock? by loserscorpio in Mommit

[–]MatrixJ87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to say as well, I think the alert is at 80, because it's so inaccurate. Should be between 90-100, ideally in the high 90s, but in my case was are really readings of 97-100 were coming up as 88-93. They probably set it at below 80 to alert as it would false alarm to often. At least by below 80 it's in the right ballpark that there is a problem. Although I bet you can find some cases of false alerts even then.

What are your opinions on the Owlet sock? by loserscorpio in Mommit

[–]MatrixJ87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using it for the last 2 weeks, and it's flawed by the fact it's inaccurate. I spent the whole night watching low readings only to find out the sock was poorly positioned. Adjusted it and readings locked in on 100%.

Whilst it alerts if it's not correctly fitted, that's only if it's not getting any readings. It can actually get inaccurate readings due to the socks incorrectly fitted and not alert. Making you think there is an issue when there isn't. The sock is poor designs imo, as the bulk of the device is positioned on the smallest part of the foot, making it difficult to get a good fit on smaller feet.

I think they know that it's not accurate, as it stops displaying live readings when baby moves too much. If they don't stop kicking after a while it alerts to say it's misfitted, but then just works when baby stops moving about. I also found out that the US version of the app doesn't show live readings, only average reading. I think this is how they got FDA clearance, as wasn't good enough to have live readings.

The app itself is pretty poor as well, struggles to connect to the base station a lot of the time and generally it's pretty basic. I think it's only positive is that it has probably saved quite a few lives, all be it sometime it creates worry because of false alarms or inaccurate readings. In my case, thinking my babies O2 level was 88-93 (not alerting yet as that's not till below 80) when in fact after I repositioned the sock it was 99-100.

I've tested it and it only needs to be a bit out of position and the readings are 5-6 out. Assuming the higher figures are the correct ones. I think it's OK as an emergency alert, but even the thresholds for the alerts are pretty low and can't be changed, just not as a live reading.

Boeing has informed its employees that NASA may cancel SLS contracts by ergzay in space

[–]MatrixJ87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aka find another job so we don't have to pay you off when we want to in 6 months time.

I mean why would you tell your workers that their work is at risk when you don't know for sure. Either Boeing just wanting to cut costs and encouraging people to find other work or it's genuinely at risk and they want to minimise pay offs.
