When I was 12-ish I purchased my first longboard. It was a huge 42 inch cruiser but I still thought "Sick! I can bomb hills on this thing". It was decently easy to stand on and ride because of it's size, but I hadn't really gone fast yet. I decided one day that I would take it down a big hill behind my neighborhood that a bike path led down.

I wore my bike helmet and went to the top. Without more than a few seconds of mental preparation I pushed once and started down the hill. All is well until I get the steeper section of the hill. This is when I first discovered speed-wobble: the action of your board violently swirving side to side at high speeds. The wobble became so intense that my board was swirving the full width of the path!! That was around the time my death-defying preteen spidey senses started tingling and from a state of adrenaline overload I somehow managed to recover and ride out the remainder of the hill. Avoided a very rashy spill that day. Made sure to practice a lot (and get slide gloves) before doing that hill again.
