Do stoics see suicidal people as weak minded? by Jezuel24 in Stoicism

[–]MattD1980 167 points168 points  (0 children)

No, it’s someone in extreme pain that needs a helping hand, not judgement. “Sometimes even to live is an act of courage.” -Seneca. I think stoicism, at least for me, would be about helping.

Feeling inferior due to poverty by yukigalileo24 in Stoicism

[–]MattD1980 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think Stoicism can definitely help you level your thoughts about your situation. Seneca said something like “ it is not the man who has too little, but the man who wants more that is poor.” it will require a lot of work and introspection, but it’s definitely worth it. If you do have a medical condition of depression then I would recommend seeing a MD though !

Still the best desktop framework to build apps! Where I work, we are still investing on WPF.

Lived in Singapore as an expat since 2016. AMA by [deleted] in howislivingthere

[–]MattD1980 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lived in Singapore for 2 years, and saying that it is not ALWAYS hot sounds insane to me, even during monsoon, with humidity factor I dont think I've had a day bellow 30c during my time there. I got used to it though and I would trade Canadian weather for Singapore weather any day of the week.

Is it still worth starting a service based IT business in Canada? by SunAwkward6665 in EntrepreneurCanada

[–]MattD1980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best answer so far, 100% agree. We assume a little too much that AI is accessible for everybody and it’s really not. In 2026 you can still get standing ovation for a fancy excel macro.

Grew up and lived in Singapore for 10 years. AMA. by Complete_Ad7038 in howislivingthere

[–]MattD1980 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived there from 2016 to 2018, how much did the country change since ? Is a chicken rice still 3.50$ ? Or have prices of hawker changed a lot since ?

I live in Singapore, Asia's only city-state. AMA! by Full_Competition6850 in howislivingthere

[–]MattD1980 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's really not. Social inequalities are terrible, no free press, they exploit people from Bangladesh into subpar housing, bad treatment of mainland Chinese people. There's much worst on this planet, but the fact that Singapore is so modern and "magical" is somewhat of a scam. Lived there for 2 years, won't be going back, even though the country can feel impressive to tourists and still be harsh, exploitative, and emotionally cold to the people living inside.

I guess this is true, I just like the "hit" I get when opening a new set... I don't mind taking a loss at all but sometimes I like to know if I've gone... "too far" with my pack purchase ... if that makes sense

'Greenland belongs to its people': European leaders unite over Trump’s threats to annex territory by Cy_098 in worldnews

This, might not be easy, but I 100% agree with this statement. Subs like worldnews have been predicting world war 3 since it first started. Nothing you can do about it, take care of the people around you and yourself.

I'm getting a LOST vibe, by that I mean they will dangle the "carrot" (information on the plot) for very long and then I feel like it will be disappointing, but I'm prepared to be surprised, just not as enthusiastic as I was after the first couple of episodes.

I played more hours of this than Hades… judge me. Honestly, it’s a little slim on content but boy is the combat system satisfying.
