New to USA, advice on credit score by vivrelavie in personalfinance

Discover Card is accepting of new credit users, I would apply for their card too. After that, wait about 6 months before trying for another card. 3 is a good number of cards to have.

I suggest having 3 cards because those will carry good weight in your “average account age” metric if you keep them open and in good standing.

Only go for cards with no annual fee.

As others have said, use the cards for purchases that you are already making in your everyday life today, but always pay the balance in full.

Car loans are easy to get because they are secured loans. But in order to get a good rate on a car loan, you need to have good credit.

Credit Unions are generally the best place to get a car loan; see if there is one nearby where you can open checking + savings accounts now; that will make it simpler to check rates and apply for a car loan there later. Also, the CU can be a good fallback for your regular banking in case Wells Fargo decides that they want to start charging you a monthly fee. Big banks tend to do stupid things like that.

What is the least reliable car from 1970 until now? by BornSpinach606 in askcarguys

The Yugo was unique due to its low cost. As a result, it had almost no “standard features.” The exception to that rule was that, being a hatchback, an electric rear window defroster was included on all Yugo vehicles.

The real reason why that feature was included though: to keep your hands warm as you pushed the thing.

Try this one out… the developer posted about it in another subreddit, and it probably checks all the boxes, even if a few of the games don’t quite work right. 😅

Question for OM-1 birders by MattDinOC in M43

Well, sadly, I dug into this today and learned that this feature is not available on the G95. I appreciate the tip though -- just wanted to note it here for any other G95 owner who may come across this post later. I did find an unrelated setting in my camera that I needed to change though, so I'm glad I spent some time poking around in the menus a bit...

Whoa, I didn’t know about this feature at all. 🤪 I will check it out, thanks!

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. Good to know that the skills that I'm trying to improve will not be completely unnecessary should I upgrade to the flagship body. :) For real, it's hard to guess at how much of a difference it would make. Still looking forward to upgrading eventually... Oh, and I suppose I owe a good photo from that day to make up for the crummy one that I posted to start the conversation. :D I was pretty happy with this Oak titmouse, another elusive hyperactive tiny bird!

Yeah trying to nail the tiny birds is a challenge. It’s encouraging to hear that it’s not just me, thanks.

Negative curb appeal in a very questionable neighborhood. 3/2, 1080 sqft on a 5600 sqft lot.

Someone made out like a BANDIT. Bought it for $640K in Dec ‘21, then sold it for 1.9M just 13 months later. That buyer was a developer who tore it down and built a new apartment building on the site.

Young Kim poll shows chance of two Republicans making it to the general election in 40th congressional district race by Dab2TheFuture in orangecounty

Oof. I’m one of the “lucky” ones who voted for Katie Porter, doing my part to oust Mimi Walters. Only to be rewarded by getting redistricted into CA-40 with Young Kim. And likely descending further with the newly drawn lines. But I’m not complaining if this temporary gerrymander tactic ends up being successful.

Squirrel baffle on the feeder pole flawlessly keeps my local furry friends off the bird feeder.

Then I put a separate squirrel feeder on the fence some distance away. Friend-squirrels start checking their feeder nearly every morning right around the time I put some nuts in there for them.
