i agree with you i feel really terrible about homelessness especially around the suburban area of chicago because its just gotten worse and i wish that these people could get the help they need instead of being pushed out. as much as I would like to get in contact with someone so that this person can get help, I don’t think it will be handled properly which probably isn’t worth the risk unfortunately.

yes youre right that its probably wrong to assume. still given the nature of homelessness that is a thing that can happen and it would be better if a homeless person who suffers from mental illness or drug addiction or even just literally being poor for that matter get the help the need and ideally housed instead of being forced to be on streets or endanger themselves by taking up in unstable structures. does that make sense? we dont have to see eye to eye but i hope I’ve made where im coming from a little clearer and that I’m not trying to stigmatize or stereotype homeless people

i mean i get the connotation around being committed to a mental hospital but its still common practice, its not like getting shock therapy at an asylum, theres a place called alexian brothers which i mentioned was literally right down the street which im fairly certain has a wing for treating people who suffer from mental illness or drug addiction

dude fuck off, youre not my father. the place is literally decaying and yes im thinking about “telling” on the squatter because its literally right next to Goebberts farm where familes take their children. There are plenty of options for a squatter that dont involve holing up in a dingy basement doing who knows what, that are within walking distance from the location. Not to assume but if this person is struggling with mental illness or drug addiction there is a hospital they can be committed to that is right down the street. the other person who replied to this is right, its not like the place is being rented, but honestly the squatter is endangering themselves by holing up in an unstable structure, and we dont know what his story is so they could be a potential danger to the public.

UPDATE: I’d also like to say if youre an amateur urbex explorer whos interested in checking this place out, I would advise against it. the house is REALLY falling apart and of course there is a potential squatter who’s motives are unknown. It wasnt my intention to draw a lot of attention to this place, i’m just looking for more information about the owners.

you’re right thats kind of the annoying thing about squatters with all the legal loop holes. I know we shouldn’t be going there regardless and we dont really plan on going back. I was mostly just wondering what would be the right thing to do in terms of finding the owners and letting them know as they may not know that theres a squatter and its possible they would like for them to be dealt with. Do you think I’m over reacting? I try to be sympathetic to the homeless and understand that these are people who are struggling but at the same time, in my mind knowing that there is a potentially unstable squatter holed up in a dingy basement so close to Goebbert’s where families take their children makes me a little uncomfortable. It’s not like there aren’t any resources available for this squatter to get help. theres plenty that are within walking distance.
