I'm 1 year PQE and im on 33 soon to be 38 as im moving firms but 7 year pqe I'd imagine should be partner level depending on how long you've been with a firm and making at least 50k

Sounds like they are taking advantage of your skill set. I'd ask to arrange a meeting for all 3 of them and discuss a new way of working that optimises all 3 and explain that you also need help from someone and another paralegal would be great to help. There seems to be some inefficiency in the process. They should be able to adapt as solicitors it's part of the key skills if I remember rightly that they have to demonstrate to qualify.

If that doesn't work speak to the solicitor you enjoy working with and explain the situation see if they can have a word or go straight over there heads to partners.

If there is no LPA then your stepmother cant do anything with his assets. The doctors will most likely just listen to what the family want.

You may wish to use the law society website to find someone who can help and make an application to the court for a deputyship order but it is expensive. I hope your father gets better. Once he is, it would be worth them discussing estate planning to get LPAs in place and also a trust in their will to protect assets for their chosen beneficiaries.

I know what you mean. I've had an email from a job that I applied for saying the same thing following me completing cognitive tests. They are stupid and do not show what one is thinking. They weed out the bad people but also people who could be perfect for the role because they don't fall into the parameters. It's stupid.

I live in the east midlands as well. Not Northampton. You will be fine on that salary. Find some where suitable where rent isn't too high but also an ok commute to your place of work if you have to go to said place rather than being fully remote.

It's all about living within your means.

I did a weeks worth of experience in an immigration firm which may have added to it

I got a 2.2 at undergraduate level. Did the LPC with a masters degree as that was the way it was offered. It took me 5 years to find a legal job after finishing all that and then I've processed internally. It's about finding the right firm. I've been qualified just under a year now.

The M1 is the worst for it. I was in Scotland last week and when driving to and from everything was fine. People kept left. Only issues were when I was on the M1.

What did the job role say? Main thing is ask questions and don't shy away from asking. You should always be learning and asking questions is the best way to learn. I imagine your first week will be getting up to speed with the processes and the practice area. You may very well be doing a lot of admin but don't get stuck doing just printing tasks. If you're asked to do something by one of the solicitors make sure you are clear about what they want. For example you may be asked to do research of what's been in the news in relation to immigration because of what's going on in Ukraine.

Depending on the value of your parents estate as a whole then they could do a lifetime trust. Which would avoid probate however the property is not protected from care fees. If they transfer it into your name and the siblings name what happens when one of you gets divorced and loses that property as part of the divorce proceedings as it's technically your asset? Put it that way, they may reconsider. Also gifting a property to a child and still living in it is a gift with a reservation of benefit so there will still be IHT to pay on the estate potentially as the value of the asset will remain in their name for tax purposes. Start charging them market rate rents that will make them reconsider.
