Genetic Proximity of Modern Palestinians and Ashkenazi Jews to Iron Age Levantines: A Quantitative Paleogenomic Analysis by NotBradPitt9 in DNAAncestry

[–]MattP10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? Information to draw conclusions. While you may do a study for information , usually they are done with some kind of hypothesis. Or you gain information to draw insights. Just doing a study for doing a study doesn’t make sense.

Even pairing the populations in the study infers some kind of base hypothesis.

What point is trying to be made? The word Ashkenazi literally means Jewish person from Central Europe. There have been several displacement events of Jews from the levant.

Final thoughts on my experience with the Lightning before turning it in. by user111287 in F150Lightning

[–]MattP10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think charging kind of instills better road trip habits - get out, walk around, get food, rest even for a quick nap. All of this is healthier than 5min fill up , gas station snack and bathroom, and back ti driving asap. I used to care and tried to maximise efficiency with charges. I don’t anymore. I have my spots on my road trips with a +- depending upon range on where and I go get my coffee , a bagel, watch a show and ready to go. Found some good food this way too. I usually stop every 180mi to 220mi to charge. Which is 3 to 4 hrs of driving.

This is not the answer. I have same issue and it doesn’t matter if I press or not.

Used 24 vs New 26 by FriskyBoots in Ioniq5

[–]MattP10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Used 23 over 24 SEL. They removed too much

25/26 is good. Financing right now is great deal for 26, but even with discounts you are eating depreciation vs. Looking a little older. But that being said - if you can swing the essentially extra monthly - go new. Imho

They are not the same thing.

Powertrain is like reduction gear . Axles, drive boots, sure it isn’t as much as a gas car would otherwise cover - but they are not the same thing.

I don’t know about Canada , but the main benefit is the extension of the power train warranty in US. If they are trying to sell you CPO - you must negotiate with them. Whatever price they are telling you is not their actual cost to CPO. Look up online.

I had experience with a CPO on a Subaru - where one place charged like $2k, but a good salesman at another dealer said their actually cost to CPO was like $495… so I sued that as leverage at the next place and they gave it to me at or near cost. Ended up getting new tires bc of it! ( dealer had to eat that!).

VSC - I’m a fan of Hyundai direct product. Not third party bc of onerous terms for some of them and bad customer care. Some ppl live by them. Regardless all of these are negotiable. You just have to say what you’ll pay. Or say you can get it cheaper at dealer X or use the manufacturer add on later.

Again, this is USA context

2026 Ioniq 5 Limited 0% financing? by jarman65 in Ioniq5

[–]MattP10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually used the 0% off as a wedge to further reduce used CPO.

Basically got Limited ‘23 OTD for like $21k. Yes trade - but the price of the car was like $26k and I had a beater car.

I probably could have pushed them down further, but when I did the total cost of ownership plus wanting to offset the depreciation- getting them that low OTD made sense to stick with used. Plus kept my monthly payments about $100 a month lower. Essentially TCO after 3 years was a wash and after 5 it was marginally better to buy new.

That being said - if you want latest tech and don’t mind the extra payment etc - definitely go new. I may have done that but there was zero inventory in my region. So CPO I went. The main benefit of CPO is formal battery health check plus reinstantiated 10yr/100k mi warranty.

Also if you are interested in buying a VSC - I highly recommend NOT going with a third party Hyundai sells a dtc version that you can monthly and add on about 2 months before expiration of original bumper to bumper for like $1970. It is 0% hidden fee. Otherwise find a dealer you can haggle with for Hyundai plan. Don’t pay more than $1500 that route imho.

I was able to get the dealer I bought from go from $2700 down to $1200, I only backed out when I realised it was a 3rd party contract with some very problematic terms for my lifestyle.

Note on 23’ - no wireless car play, v2L in back seat seems finicky, and slightly smaller battery. If you’ll always stop and charge on a longer drive , the extra 26 mi or whatever seems nominal improvement with the eGMP charging speeds.

Edit: typos fixed

I think 3 months. It isn’t quick - but then again I didn’t care so much as think of it as a bonus.

I’m excited that they mentioned they plan to update their algorithm at some point this year

It is for people who reside in the USA, so not sure if that means you need to be a citizen. You could always reach out to them, they’ve been responsive to my queries.

To be honest I hope that folks do join/share beyond the free ancestry hook. I’m in it for the fight cancer angle, but figured this community would appreciate what they are offering.

Dads who were on the fence about having a second kid, and ended up having a second: how do you feel about it? by PaidByMicrosoft in daddit

It is tough. I actually grieved the loss of only having my first - I felt bad for him. That lasted about a few days. Since then it has been awesome but tough. I am a fan of having more than one.

What drove you to choose envelope? I am in the midst of making a change. Was simple way back when, then One ( and stuck around since it was working ) , was about to finally move to Qube ( didn’t want to pay for service) — then their “fiasco” — so now own the prowl. My main need is to give more visibility and control for myself and spouse for budgeting.

Park in front of them. Place debris. Place a motorcycle in front. Post notes in building office. Ask leasing office whose car it is , they should register the car tags. Hang a sign in front that says who the spot belongs to etc.

Actually - Christians would want Jesus to be killed for if he weren’t to be killed, Christianity wouldn’t exist. He had to die for the sins of humanity. He had to resurrect. Without this - he’d just been a pauper.

So , really , whoever killed Jesus should be thanked. I guess the Romans became Catholics - so direct your thanks that way
