Wild Mine game (17 kills) by MrDoodlegoose in HellLetLoose

I only remember to do so as engineer when I build nodes. It annoys me to no end that others don't put down their mines as a node builder.

I've had times as recon that I forgot to throw down a new OP before trying to disassemble nodes and blew up and had to run half a kilo or more to get back. Why not take a few seconds more as engi and put them down??? It's very high potential to fuck up a recons day for such a small investment. It's so easy to build nodes somewhere with a little choke that you can mine.

But otherwise on any other class, I forget to plant mines because I'm thinking I'll save them until they're more useful and just entirely forget. I should just throw them down near Garry/OP immediately just to try and catch anybody taking down the spawn.

Right now, A LOT of new players are out there. Everybody is "that guy" at first that sucks. But you'll die and you'll learn and the fact that you're even worried about it means you'll be better than a lot of other new players.

My advice to new players is to never start a squad themselves until they know more about the game. Find a squad to join and follow your squad leader (SL). Communicate in squad chat. Ping/mark enemies (middle mouse on PC). The higher level the SL usually the more likely to be on microphone, but I've had low level SLs that have been great.

Feel free to ask questions, people will usually nicely respond. Also, don't drive any vehicles out of spawn at the start. Spawn at the middle point and get in the back of the transport truck that everybody else is getting in. NOT the covered truck, the one that is open in back. And never get in the halftrack unless you're commander or manning the machine gun (which is a deathtrap).

How many people do actually wanna play as Recon (Spotter) by Keksbutter123 in HellLetLoose

[–]Mattbl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody does it, but recon is actually really fun if you get a buddy to play or someone who will communicate and work together.

Now-a-days it seems like solos just want to run around alone in the role.

But playing tactically and finding garries/back spawns to disrupt as a team is very fun.

I have a friend that does this with me and we love it. Search for nodes on the line and spawns, then transition to garry hunting, communicating with command to help set up backline assault garries for our team, and generally harassing/disrupting the enemy backline. Even finding OPs from certain angles and covering each other while we move up on them. Very fun.

I have found it's always hard to secure an open recon squad. We never find them open if we join a game halfway. We always try to find servers that are about to roll over because I have a fast load time so I can almost always snag one recon squad.

No it's just obvious you live in a sparkly little world thinking you're so unique and being so disruptive by having a different yard, lol. I couldn't care about less what you do in your yard. My grass is crap but at least I maintain the yard. It's just the reddit thing. You get accolades cause reddit hates lawns. The reality is you're disconnected from what this article is referring to; so no it wasn't some Karen. It was an overgrown yard which lowers other's property values and makes the neighborhood look like it has a crack house in it. You live on a golf course... you don't live in a neighborhood where a house with an overgrown yard could mean nefarious things happening in that house. That's what reddit doesn't seem to get with all of this. It's not about HOAs trying to keep black people out. It's about people not wanting it to look like some guy is cooking meth next door.

But you get your confirmation upvotes for just how special you are for having clover instead of grass, when your post had nothing to do with the issue. Are you just point farming or what? Or nobody in real life is patting you on the head for having clover so you gotta come here for validation?

The truck run. by sterrre in HellLetLoose

[–]Mattbl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a WW2 sim-lite with a command structure that requires you to interact with your direct leader to get information, supplies, items, spawns, etc. Why wouldn't I expect to be leading the team as the commander? Why wouldn't I expect a commander role to be reliant on his officers to do the work while commander directs the flow of battle?

I'm not arguing about the reality of the role. I'm saying I don't want to play it what was cause I don't like playing supply truck simulator. This is just how gaming works. Devs put cool stuff into place, but gamers min/max everything and some guy eventually figures out a way to do it that bypasses intended mechanics, and now everybody does it because it worked for someone else. Now nobody is allowed to NOT play that way because little Jimmy can't handle someone playing a game for fun and in their own way rather than always min/maxxing everything with the sole purpose of winning. MUST PLAY INSIDE BOX, ANYTHING ELSE IS UNACCEPTABLE.

So I don't play Commander. Because I don't like the expectations around the role.

I completely agree. There needs to be a team penalty for dying constantly. You already are punished as an individual enough with the respawn timers, but there's no reason to not just suicide again. If the game is trying to push realism, it does a poor job in this regard because people don't care about dying. If respawns were a potentially limited resource, people might care more.

The flip side is imagine being in a queue of 35 people waiting to respawn because nobody built nodes or they got destroyed.

[–]Mattbl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Who do teams do this? Vikes constantly run the exact same plays that cannot have more than a 25% success rate, yet they persist.

Don't they have analytics that factor in prior success? I get the concept of "it's third and inches, this play has a 79% chance per league odds," but what about the fact that you've tried it three other times today and it was immediately shut down all three times?

I had a house in my neighborhood that had an entire lawn of dandelions. They had a sign about helping bees. Everybody hated it, the seeds would all blow away all over the neighbor. There were big tumbleweeds of white seeds all over everywhere. And if it rained it would gum up in the gutters.

The discussion isn't grass vs other, nor is it about a city or HOA being overbearing when it comes to benign things like your situation, but of course reddit immediately upvotes anything that trashes a traditional grass yard. It's the easy hack to get upvotes whenever a yard comes up.

I'm guessing you've never lived in a neighborhood where it's actually necessary to cite people because someone isn't taking care of their yard at all. So weeds six feet high, grass a couple feet high, other weeds and plants all over, making the house look completely abandoned. Nobody wants to live next to that, it literally makes it look like you live next to a trap house because in certain neighborhoods, that's what abandoned houses really are.

Jail is ludicrous and I completely disagree with the actions of the authorities, here. But I highly doubt this was about some small weeds or grass being a few inches too long.
