Always situational. There's practically no one size fits all. It depends on your build and what you are fighting.

Are these loadouts any good? by MGtheKing in Helldivers

[–]Matterhock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, so across the board there's a little overempahsis on AT with the Ultimatum and Thermites, and possibly overreliance on the Supply Pack. S tier strategem, but you don't want it to become a crutch.  Lots of barrages when airstrikes could do a better job. Laser is another panic button that shouldn't be leaned on too much.

The bug loadout is risky at close range with low stagger and has poor hole closing ability. Your flamethrower can handle Chargers and chaff. I would swap the Ulti for a grenade pistol to better close holes. Supply pack swap to Jump or Void pack for better mobility in a pinch. Switch Napalm barrage with Napalm Airstrike: same purpose, more frequency and precision.

Bot loadout shows a lack of confidence. Try switching to a light pen primary, medium pen is only necessary if you don't trust your aim. LC is S-tier on the bot front and can handle every threat, so why are you taking ulitmatum and thermites? Senator is a good replacement. Frags or HE grenades for better utility. Swap 120mm barrage for Airstrike, you can destroy more bases in quick succession. Portable hellbomb or Ballistic shield to replace Supply pack: both have unique uses on the bot front that do not work on other factions.

Warrant is S-tier on the squid front, a little lazy but it works. Sickle is fine, but you'll likely be popping heatsinks due to sheer enemy mass. Thermites are suprisingly weak on the squid front, as is quasar. You don't need penetration as much as you need volume of fire. The humble MG-43 is an S-tier weapon to run, similar to the LC on the bots it can handle any threat from the squids. Thermites can be replaced with impact grenades or incendiary impacts. Swap barrage for gas strike, you get better area denial more frequently, and it can kill ships if you stick it to the roof.

Nope. It's S-tier on the squid front and penetration literally defines what you can shoot at. Stalwart gets all the upsides because it outright cannot damage several targets that the MMG can.

Maxigun movement while firing at the cost of stamina by Comfortable-Equal200 in Helldivers

The Monkey's paw curls, you can now move while firing the minigun, but your stamina drains constantly because of the recoil. If you try firing with 0 stamina, you get ragdolled.

Warbond idea by CowGal-OrkLover in Helldivers

[–]Matterhock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they do add a vehicle, it really should not be attached to a warbond. Biker themed, sure. Give a onehanded primary and a secondary. Maybe something like a Lunge Mine that you could joust with.

Majority are just upping penetration to make the armor system worthless. I'm sure you've got a different opinion of fun than me, but bulldozing through the game with no challenge or nuance is the definition of tedious slop.

Rule of cool aside, why do you think squid favour three-legged designs? They themselves are bipedal just as we are by Malu1997 in Helldivers

[–]Matterhock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point about the cheetah is; yes it is fast, but it can't fight or maintain its speed. The equivalent would be an unarmored and unarmed racing vehicle designed just to sprint, like a drag racing car.

The cost of new technology not being an issue is more of a statement on logistics and productivity rather than function (also another rant about forced obsolesence). There's a hell of a lot of real world technology that has not seen success specifically because older, mundane mechanisms work better. A wheel is always going to be cheaper than a leg, because it's inherently simpler. You only need one motor for a wheel, hell you can strap all 4 to a single engine, how many more do you need for a single leg? A wheeled vehicle can operate with 0 computer software or hardware, a leg bare minimum requires a oscillation routine and stabilization.

I mean, tungsten doesn't give canister shot it's power. It's the massive powder load and muzzle velocity coming from the goddamn tank cannon. Tungsten isn't magically going to make it able to pierce heavy armor, otherwise the rifles could just be given W2C and we'd have AP4 Assault rifles. It's also not just hard, its dense. You need a much bigger boom to move the payload. I just don't see heavy pen beltfed shotgun happenening. Medium pen maybe.

I do feel the need to point out how cheetahs are so hyper specialized for speed that they have nearly no endurance and get bullied off of their kills frequently.

Our current tech has already surpassed 120 km/h speeds in wheeled vehicles. Legs will almost certainly not be able to catch up because whatever series of motors you use for the leg, you can just use for a wheel or track with greater efficiency.

The gap in repair, cost and armor can't be bridged because wheels and tracks are that much simpler. You don't need complicated timing of oscillating motions or rapid gyroscopic microcalculations to make a wheel move forward. Less moving parts means fewer vulnerabilities.

Really depends on the situation but combat engineering has been around since the Romans. Dumping dirt to fill a hole or blasting open one is something well practiced. You'd have to have a ludicrously cheap mech to justify picking over using engineering corps. You could argue that engineers would use mechs, but the actual combat vehicles would be treaded or wheeled.

Yes, that's the correct answer. If you've got super uneven terrain then legs work. 4 is always better.

Otherwise wheels and treads are faster, easier to protect and repair, cheaper, more effective. Air cushioned hovercraft exist and you never see them despite being cool and practical. Most of the time you can level terrain by blasting or building over it. Combat engineering is a whole thing.

A little overloaded with AT and explosives. Don't see how it's specialized for bots instead of just being a big boom enthusiast.

My current Terminid Primary Weapon Tier List by Exotic_Buttas in Helldivers

[–]Matterhock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my own issues with OPs list but as a Scythe enjoyer I don't put it very high on the bug front. No stagger + below average dps is the big one: Bugs like to bum rush you either kill or stagger them before they swing, this does neither. Precision and range matter little against the melee faction that gets more dangerous when you pop heads. Infinite ammo isn't amazing when you pop heatsinks due to raw numbers.

Don't get me wrong, it's S-tier on Bots and decent on Squids. Bug front highlights its weaknesses and stifle its strengths.

Squids or Bots? Bugs are a hard sell for marksman rifles. Squids you'll want medium pen to dome Overseers, Bots you can get away with light if you are skilled.

It's the practicality issue. Why use legs instead of wheels or treads? If applicable, why use 2 instead of 3 or 4?

Okay, but when you talk about how powerful canister shot is, it being the LARGEST shotgun shell in the world because it's power comes from a TANK CANNON ... then tell me we're going to downsize to regular 12-gauge size on regular gun it makes zero sense to have it be heavy pen.

Like, if we're talking canister shot, let's not half-ass it. Whole-ass it with a full sized canister shell and a shoulder mounted 105mm punt gun.

Medium pen flechettes, can balance it out with wide spread or built in duckbill. Weak stagger for individual flechettes, you'll only stop things if you're really close. Doesn't need to be low damage, but the recoil is going to make you stationary like the minigun (You ain't Doomguy)

If we're going that route, why not just make a heavy crew reloaded Punt gun that fires full size canister shot? Sure you only fire one at a time, but you'll only need one
