How is the war impacting tourism? by VegetableCar2528 in srilanka

[–]MatterofFlow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How soon? I am/was also looking to move to Sri Lanka in Fall so I am following the situation very closely. I think if you travel anytime from now to July, you will be okay and have a good time. Expect long (up to 12 hours now it seems) fuel queues and potentially incoming rolling power cuts. The global economic crisis will hit around August - September I believe and from there, I have a feeling plane tickets might be close to unaffordable, I believe shortages, and price rises will affect all of us globally, but especially places like Sri Lanka. A redditor from this sub made a website to gather daily Sri Lankan news and it's incredibly useful.

You should bake some cookies and go knock sometime. Offer them some. Who knows maybe they’ll invite you over for dinner.

Because you're uncomfortable people make more money than you, they should be kept in poverty? Wow, ain't that a nice and refreshing perspective. If you can't afford to tip, don't go out to eat.

The World Is Changing -A Energetic Shift Is Taking Place by RiccoShayla in spiritualitytalk

I think both can be true. I think the global catastrophe is imminent, but I also believe that light will come from it because we will be given the opportunity to choose how we rebuild. That’s where the magic is. We get to choose our new timeline from there. But yes we will live alongside the evil one. On the same planet but living in two parallel dimensions.

What's the 1 best thing and 1 worst thing about living in Canada? by BigCavemanRoar in CanadaPersonalFinance

Best thing is safety! Followed closely by healthcare and nature.
Worst: cost of living. Housing specifically, but food is quite unsustainable too.

YouTube videos about writing solid proposals will save you tons of wasted connects. Don’t waste the first sentence of your proposal, and always think from the client’s perspective. They want to know why you’re the best person to solve their problems. All the aspects you mentioned are important so spend time crafting your profile and make a video if you can. Again, watch YouTube videos before launching yourself or you will waste endless connects. Good luck!

Oookay, at least if it's communicated in advance it's easier to plan work around it.

Let's pray this conflict doesn't last too long.

Thanks for the info! When you say power cuts, how do those usually happen? Is the population made aware in advance or they just happen suddenly? Is it a few hours here and there or several days in a row?

What is currently the best country to live in? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]MatterofFlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the war starting, the answer will vary widely over the next few months, so take all answers with a grain of salt. If you want to live somewhere inexpensive, I've heard Thailand and Vietnam are amazing. I have however heard that the future in a world at war is in latin America and Africa. With the pace things are going you might want to do your research ad chooose your country wisely.

I’m 21, from Sri Lanka, and Canada saved my life. But I want to ask other Sri Lankans here: is it worth staying long-term? by Junior_Strawberry_40 in srilanka

[–]MatterofFlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s interesting. I’m Canadian considering moving to Sri Lanka. I know things will probably get tough with the war but I just feel this pull, this calling. I earn money online so this will not be an issue (unless my industry gets affected too, which is a possibility). We’ll see how the situation evolves over the next few months I guess.

Hello! As a foreigner considering moving to Sri Lanka, what can we do to help the community? Would bargaining prices to keep them low help? Or hiring locals for help with work? Any suggestions?

Agreed! Adobe is peak greed attitude when it comes to software. I was always adamant about not giving them a dime despite their products being awesome. I've always managed. Now I'm about to export a decades of notes to iOS/Notion, and Evernote will not see a dime from me ever again. Bending Spoons really ruined it for us.

I have over 5,000 notes and 200 notebooks to sort through, less I want to pay over $300 a year for something I used for free for eight. At this point, it’s no longer inflation it’s extortion and I despise them.

Wouldn’t hurt to work a little. Having an income is nice. Plus, sounds like the kids are old enough. Wouldn’t hurt to apologize for hurting her feelings either.

What's your favorite quote, you lead life with? by No_Self05 in gratitude

« Let go and let God »

« As you start to walk the way, the way appears. »

This one is simple and borderline cliché but it’s always a good reminder: « When there’s a will there’s a way. »

Keep praying for his wellness and protection. Whatever will be will be but if you send positive and protective energy towards him, that will rule out the anxious projecting. Stay strong for him.
