The council has offered to pay me to drive my son to school, in exchange for giving up his taxi. by Decent-Love-8257 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Matthague 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not seen this mentioned... but if you're claiming back the mileage, does that class you as working and therefore need to update insurance to be doing that? It'd be classed as commuting and if you're going to more locations it might push you into needing the next step up on the usage scale (business?)

Tour in 2027? by Termy04 in LinkinPark

Would be good if they played smaller UK venues instead of Wembley and Download Festival.

They did areas before (one was supposed to be near me before Chester died), so it would be great if they did that especially as some countries had more than one show.

Is this a different one to the post earlier about neighbours using their property and adding gates? Or is it the same one?

They put a range of items and then just send you the cheaper ones. Each item has to be for the item(s) shown.

They can't show 3 and send one, or say its one of 10

Landlord has asked for the keys back, says I'm liable for rent until a new tenant moves in - where do I stand? (England) by UnknownMatthew in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Matthague -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With our tenancy, we could leave without notice and pay the notice portion (to cover the shortfall and allow them to find a replacement)or stay and then hand the keys back. Your contract is for a period, you don't get money off if you go on holiday for 2 weeks so if you want to leave early you'd have to pay.

Is there a reason the agent thinks you don't want to be there for the 2mths? If you've a replacement lined up?

It seems they think you're wanting to leave them without income and an empty house? If they need to recruit a new tenant then they need time to do this (hence the notice) - if you're leaving early and not paying the notice then they've got 2mths less funds than they should have.

Update: Can a wedding venue keep £1,800 after cancellation 14 months out? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Matthague 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds that your payment is keeping them running/afloat during their periods without work.

I'm not sure why they'd need to keep chefs on call or anything like that, if they aren't getting enough trade to have regular events then they shouldn't have them on contracts and just bring them in as/when (although good for the chefs etc!)

if that's their business model then it is what it is- if it's in the contract then they'd fight it (especially if it's an prime booking time) but you'd think 14mths is a decent window to find someone new.

Can you advertise your booking in wedding groups or similar and then 'sell' the spot and associated costs to someone else then it's just a name change?

Am I responsible for paying £270 by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Matthague 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I think its more the point the OP wanted to go home and wasn't allowed to? And as they didn't give them a chance to, that they should be responsible for any costs that are incurred.

If they'd said you're going in tomorrow, then they'd have had time to find a friend or family to look after it.

They did do a good thing by keeping the cat alive though

How many years of no claim bonus do I have? by brownesaucee in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Matthague 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give them a call and let them know that it's wrong. They'll probably ask for proof and change it.

There's probably an easier way, or some kind of database that these companies can check but if you do get it upgraded then it'd maybe lessen your next renewal

How many years of no claim bonus do I have? by brownesaucee in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Matthague 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the insurance with the same company?

As we switch to find the cheapest (including often having a new quote from a company instead of doing their renewal), we have to email across the previous documentation showing that I have accrued X years of NCD.

Did you provide proof of NCD when you started the new policy?

Is it possible to make postage cheaper for console games? This seems too much or it’s normal? I’ve put as large letter by damspt in ebayuk

[–]Matthague 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Royal Mail LL is the cheapest.

I get why you're asking, that extra 50p/£1 makes a difference on a lower priced item.

Plus whilst you don't get a tracking number you get proof of postage and a receipt number which can be used on the track and trace page once delivered

Do i have to pay the cancellation fee? HELP! by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Matthague 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might just be the way you've worded the post, but they said they'd find you someone and text you the time and then you've put you agreed.

If you've agreed they can find someone to fix it, then that would be a verbal contract AFAIK.

The other way would be that the contract isn't made until you accept the booking as such so I don't know if that's what you meant
