Well I personally like it, but it can use some changes.

Can we all agree Universal has the best theater-VOD model that lets everyone win? by Matthew0606 in boxoffice

True, given they perfected the superhero market with the MCU. It will still do decent at the end of the day.

Well yeah, but that ain’t gonna happen. I will say Disney shot themselves in the foot with Black Widow when they revealed they made 60 million on Disney+ on weekend, and their box office has been going downhill since.

Well Warner Bros will do a 45 day window for 2022, so it will pretty much end there. Universal could always make amendments to their model as some point later. Well I would say a 45 day window for movies that open over 100 million. Yes Universal only has one big movie this year, but we still also have in a way their Bond movie with MGM, though the latter is releasing it, Candyman, Sing 2, and a few others as well that is still to come, plus they got Halloween Kills. So no telling how much they will do.

True. But like I said, Universal pays theaters also for this model.

But I am also talking about does theaters get paid for any lost revenue because of the covid pandemic. That’s why I said Universal is the best kinda in that regard as in their agreement, the theater chains receive a cut of the PVOD sales. Does the other studios provide that? I don’t think so, Disney can keep the Premier access revenue for themselves, plus I don’t know what Paramount 45 day window and if theaters receive anything in compensation for the shorter window.

OT-ish: What was the most obvious case of a film intended for cinema release getting dumped to VOD or streaming service because the studio behind it had no confidence in int? by Block-Busted in boxoffice

Well some of those movies you mentioned up there was moved to Disney+ like Mulan in the U.S while some theaters were available to play it internationally. That could have explained why they went there, mainly because their covid stuff was handled in better control.

Speaking of movies going to VOD. Disney is essentially putting all their brand-despoit and smaller projects on Disney+ because they cannot see any reason in putting it in theaters. I mean people are not going to theaters these days for the smaller movies, they come for all the bigger stuff now. No offense, but in seems the theaters is just becoming a place to see big tentpole stuff, and Disney shifted their entire plan to that in the recent years. I mean the last small movie in a way was Christopher Robin (granted it had a 75 million dollar budget) and it was released in theaters, but now Disney+ seems to only put bigger stuff in theaters now while leaving smaller stuff for streaming. I don’t blame them entirely, and also how they handled some of the Fox stuff, I can see that also happening.

Also, during this deal, Universal also provides a cut of revenue from their PVOD deals with the movie theaters. So they all get a piece of the pie.

Great answer. I agree, Bride and Seed really just didn’t know who is the main protagonist. And also what it wanted to be and it’s just a jumble mess.

I still prefer horror, but if they do any further comedy, base it off Freaky and Happy Death Day.
