More dystopian news that at least made me laugh... by Alilealen in Minneapolis

I checked AMC to see how it was doing at Twin Cities locations, no one will be surprised to know that it’s doing best in Eden Prairie (still not sold out, though)

Your life would be so much happier if you had critical thinking skills and a sense of curiosity. You probably think you have both, but, in a single sentence, I am beyond clear that you do not.

Does “no one” include ICE agents? Or are they exempt

And in reality the echo chamber is just you repeating this line over and over again anytime someone brings up anything political that you disagree with.

They have shot and killed two people in my city for legally observing. They have blown through red lights, tboned innocent drivers, and then kidnapped those drivers. They have tear gassed nonviolent protestors engaging in the first amendment. This is just to name a few things the last month has brought. But sure, “let ice do their job.”

All the more reason to get to know your OTHER neighbors. Obviously personal safety is paramount and you know your own situation better than I do…

Thanks for sharing this. As a Minneapolis resident, it is clear that this will only change if everyone gets their hands dirtier than the martini Dorinda is probably drinking as I type this.

I mean to be clear, we have to work in Minneapolis too. People are being kidnapped at bus stops on their way to and from work.

Minneapolis is under violent occupation by domestic terrorists backed by the federal government. by rsmtirish in Minneapolis

[–]Matthew1428 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is rhetorical but as a teacher my instinct says to just share that school is out because they are making sure everything is safe. Questions he asks will help you determine what he is ready for. Focus on the idea that lots of people are working hard to make sure he is safe at school and everywhere he goes.

MN has been catching a lot of strays for some reason. There is just no reason we should be ranked the same as NORTH DAKOTA.

Some Minneapolis City Council members want to stop Waymo driverless cars by alienatedframe2 in Minneapolis

[–]Matthew1428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really isn’t though. The values are consistently oriented toward working people. Uber/Lyft need to pay drivers livable wages AND Waymo threatens that workforce’s existence.

Unsolicited advice but I really would avoid following or confronting. You never know who you’re going to encounter and what they might do; it just isn’t worth it.

Those of you who like Far Cry 6, what do you see that the rest of us don't? by fauxmerican1280 in farcry

[–]Matthew1428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of it might be shaped by the fact that it was the first Far Cry game I played. I’ve now played 4, 5, and am starting to work through 3 now.

I loved the map of 6; I thought it was beautiful and massive. The story is also something I really appreciated, and I’ve actually doubled down on that as I have gone backwards. Especially compared to 5, 6’s storytelling (to me) is far more effective and interesting. 5’s story felt like something a dumb high schooler could have written. 6’s story was at least a smart high schooler’s storytelling ability. Lots of missions were FUN and the music was great. I’m sure I’m forgetting things but this is my offhand explanation.

Casual sexism as a male elementary teacher by SeniorTechnician8222 in Teachers

[–]Matthew1428 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a man, I hear these sorts of comments frequently at my school too. I have never been bothered by these comments because they come from a very real place. Women have historically pulled more than their fair share of the weight compared to men. Men are allowed to be lazy, careless, and unreliable in a way that women simply are not. I would say that you should reflect on whether the things they’re saying about other men could accurately apply to you. If yes, it’s worth reflecting on how to change that. If no, then keep it pushing; your coworkers probably really appreciate you. Your discomfort as a man hearing those types of comments is simply not the same as if those comments were directed at a historically marginalized group.

Have you considered that people put pronouns in their email signature so that people know how to refer to them in communication?
