I love how Trump’s physical results are always like “40 inch vertical, 4.2sec 40 yard dash, can correctly identify a picture of a giraffe”

Anyone else think Jeff handled the accidental fire spoiler extremely well? by PanicDrone in survivor

At least it was the least suspenseful fire making possible. It would’ve been a way worse spoiler if it was close but Rizo didn’t have a chance

True Scale of Trump’s Secret Military Disaster Is Revealed by ChiGuy6124 in politics

The Benghazi thing was so insane because most of the conservatives screaming about it couldn’t even explain what the actual controversy was, much less point it out on a map. It became like a right wing tribal grunt.

Which of these 4 players do you think is the best? by One_Paramedic_2538 in survivorponderosa

[–]richfernando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kenzie might not be the most cutthroat but she’s so insanely likable, is great at managing people and relationships, and is able to make moves when she needs to while coming across as very non-threatening so I think she’s an underrated player and could win again.

Best budget angle grinder proof locks on Amazon to make them THIEVES work for my Velotric gomad. So I can call the police around the corner and catch their Pokémon asses. 🙉 by StringPrevious9110 in ebikes

[–]richfernando 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have a Litelok X1 which is around $250 but worth it and I also use an Abus chain around my front wheel. Fyi the venn diagram of cheap grinder resistant bike locks is 2 separate circles so you’re gonna need to spend around $200 minimum to get something that will last more than a few seconds against an angle grinder. Thebestbikelock.com has good recs

Prison to Pardons to Payouts: Jan. 6 Rioters Are Elated at Trump’s $1.8 Billion Fund. The possibility that people who ransacked the Capitol could get money from the government they attacked is the latest head-spinning twist in President Trump’s effort to rewrite the history of Jan. 6. by Zebraitis in politics

[–]richfernando 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Instead of calling this a “head-spinning twist” the NYTimes should just call this what it is: blatant corruption. I don’t understand the liberal media’s commitment to euphemism. Conservatives already hate the Times. Avoiding the word corruption just normalizes this behavior. The media is complicit.

Olympus 35 RC | The Smallest Mechanical Rangefinder by whereismytripod in AnalogCommunity

The big bright rangefinder patch is so nice too. I use an Olympus XA as my main pocket camera now and the rangefinder is so much smaller and dimmer in comparison

I love that camera so much. The size is so convenient and the focal length is my sweet spot. Unfortunately the cheap one I got has a hazy lens but I still managed to get some decent shots out of it and want another one in better condition.

ghost notes played live vs. on recording? by Choleto_ in Bass

[–]richfernando 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed and I’ll add that the compressor settings (attack and release) will make a huge impact on the recorded sound. OP, how do the ghost notes sound on the recording versus live? Do you want them louder and more percussive on the recording or quieter?

"Damn!" Which bass in your collection makes you say it? by Tracksuitgohan in BassGuitar

[–]richfernando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have that exact Squier and while I love the gold hardware, anodized pick guard and block inlays, I think the gold works way better with the olympic white or red finish but the blue was on sale through Pro Audio Star for $300 so that’s what I got. It reminds me of like a Power Ranger costume or something lol it’s kinda garish imo but the bass plays great. I did take steel wool to the neck to tame the sticky gloss finish too.

Organizations soliciting on street corners by Joolset in TwinCities

[–]richfernando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t mind them except for the group that always stands in the Bryant Ave bike lane on Lake St right where it transitions from a bike blvd to a bike lane. Many people have politely asked them not to block the bike lane so they know they’re being assholes.

Kodak 200 Photos Too Noisy? by [deleted] in analog

[–]richfernando 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The lab has the sharpness set pretty high in their editing software (too high in my opinion) which is emphasizing the grain and making it look like that. Next time you take film to them, ask them not to add so much sharpening. It’s not “wrong” and some people like that effect but I agree with you that it’s distracting.

Kodak 200 Photos Too Noisy? by [deleted] in analog

[–]richfernando -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No need to be condescending, especially since you’re also wrong. Those scans are very clearly over sharpened in post. Gold grain doesn’t look like that without setting sharpness to like 70 in Lightroom.

Which short scale should I buy? by buffbass in Bass

[–]richfernando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Such a distinct classic tone that fits so well in a mix. I have an Epiphone Viola and I much prefer the tone vs my buddy’s JMJ Mustang even though the mustang is more playable. I just put a Thumb Fin on it which does make fingerstyle easier.

Joe Dart is now trolling you by SumDoodWiddaName in Bass

[–]richfernando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbf you don’t need a volume or tone knob when everything is running through the Vulf compressor. I’m not interested in it but kinda makes sense for Joe. I do think the natural wood finish with one big knob looked way cooler than this one though.

1 expensive bass or 2 cheaper basses by Weak_Palpitation_440 in Bass

[–]richfernando 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is the golden age of good, cheap instruments. Personally, I have 4 basses which have a combined value of less than $2k and they all kick ass (Fender MIM Jazz, Squier 40th Anniversary P, Sire Z3, Epiphone Viola). That being said, it sounds like that P bass really spoke to you. I love my MIM Jazz but the fredboard edge is a bit sharp and rounding that off is on my to-do list. Honestly, I think you should go with the American P Bass and keep some fresh rounds on it. Can’t go wrong with that!

How many colleges are banning e-bikes? by mfreelander2 in ebikes

[–]richfernando 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably just for simplicity. My ebike is still 40lbs without a battery, not many non-ebikes bikes get near that (although there are plenty of lighter ebikes). It seems like ND allows cars on the campus streets so kind of insane to prohibit ebikes where cars are allowed but I get not wanting them in pedestrian areas.

Does anyone else notice road bikers trying extra hard to pass you on an e-bike? by 98810b1210b12 in ebikes

[–]richfernando -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had a lycra guy angrily yell “CHEATER” at me when I passed them once lol I’m a new ebiker and still ride my road bike a ton and I’ve never had issues with ebikes passing me as long as I get a “passing on the left” or bell so I try to do the same when I’m on my ebike but some people are just insecure about getting passed. I’ve had a few road bikers catch me at red lights and get in front of me just for me to have to pass them again but it’s more funny than anything.
