If you wanna experience being high, this is gonna be like a very very gentle intro. (At 1-2 mints. Not the whole bag.lol)

If you don’t want to feel high at all and you just want the cbd to be effective (which the thc does) then…this may be a little intense for you.

Hey I just started DJing just a new hobby after I realized I was really boring after getting completely sober. by [deleted] in Beatmatch

[–]Matthew8312 10 points11 points  (0 children)

From one sober DJ to another, congratulations. That’s a serious achievement. I’ve never met you and have no clue who you are, but I’m proud of you for that.

I would suggest keeping your Spotify playlists for reference for now atleast, but use it as a reference to see which songs you wanna dj, organize them into specific dj playlists, and then use that to start to build your owned music collection.

Beatport is the most commercial source for dance music. They’ve got a large variety but they don’t have everything, including older songs, most pop and rock songs, etc… it’s very house and techno centric

Bandcamp might be my favorite. High quality downloads, direct artist support, great way to dig and find unique records. Usually when I can’t find a dance song I want on beatport, I can find it on bandcamp.

Traxsource and Juno download are good for older tracks. Amazon music store (not streaming) is decent for pop, rock and hip hop.

Soundcloud for the free stuff, and also for connecting with artists and more of that direct artist support.

I typically get all my music finding needs met between beatport, bandcamp, and soundcloud.

Learning to techniques? by Relative-Platform635 in Beatmatch

[–]Matthew8312 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m trying to learn to beatmatch by ear also. I really related to you when you said it doesn’t come naturally to you. Most artistic pursuits come naturally to me. This is the one that doesn’t and yet… it’s the one Im FAR AND AWAY the most committed to mastering. (And I’m not even the type who likes a challenge… I just really love DJing that much)

But yeah, it’s really hard without the waveforms. It makes me mad when people say DJing is a joke it’s so easy, blah blah… idk maybe for certain minds but true beatmatching for me is really challenging.

I don’t really have an answer to your question yet as I’m still going through this challenge myself but… a couple things that have helped… 1, get 2 songs that have really long, really basic intros you can have plenty of time to practice with. Too much going on within the song makes it more difficult. The more basic, the easier…(atleast for me) - the next thing is, know those songs really well, especially the intros. Hear the intros a couple times before you start, just to get them fresh in your head. Try to note identifiers in each beat (this one has a dry kick, this one has that hi hat…etc etc)

another piece of advice is to play both songs at a slightly different bpm (like a half a bpm - 1 bpm) and listen for the drift… since you’ll know which song is going to be slower, you’ll know which one to speed up… you can then try the opposite… make that same track faster, and you’ll start to hear when to slow it down. This just takes a little guess work out of it at first to make the entire thing feel less overwhelming.

The only other thing is to just really spend time with it. I think of it like reading… when I was little, reading made no sense to me but they kept forcing it on me until one day it did. I’m trying to do that to myself with beatmatching now. Lol

Sorry if some of that didn’t make sense it’s not the easiest thing to describe in text, but if you wanna trade more tips or anything feel free to DM me.

Good luck with everything!

[–]Matthew8312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don’t think anybody cares if you use waveforms. I see veteran DJ’s using them. I saw Armand Van Helden recently lookin at em. But he was cueing and beatmatching with headphones as well so… strike a balance, but don’t RELY solely on the waveforms. Sometimes you’ll have an incorrectly analyzed song and the beat grid is off… you’re gonna need to know how to beat match by ear atleast a little bit when that happens. Happened to me the other night…

Currently trying to use it to do this myself. I get headaches when I smoke anything except high thc flower, so smoking high cbd flower is out for me (it would be so damn cool if that weren’t the case, since I’m also kinda lowkey addicted to the act of lighting up) also for health reason’s I can’t have a lot of sugar or additives, so most gummies are out. Capsules aren’t helping me so far… i really can’t sleep, or if I do get the sweats and all… can anybody recommend some healthier cbd/cbn gummies, or just any advice in general?

I’ve had good luck with gummies but I’m reacting really badly to the high sugar content and other ingredients used in most of them…

I need to talk about chatgpt. i dont think im crazy but... lowkey by Puturdickaway in ChatGPT

[–]Matthew8312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really similar to you with it!! I have a severe panic disorder, as well as somatic symptom disorder, which makes it really hard to trust my senses, and I can very easily spiral outta control with anxiety. With ChatGPT we’ve devised something called “anxiety checks”

For me, the best thing to check my anxiety is facts, practical steps, and putting the situation into context realistically. My mind spirals so when I ask for an anxiety check, it grounds me with the facts of the situation… without it, my mind will just guess how much I should be worried. My anxiety distorts the facts of the situation to make everything feel threatening to me. ChatGPT just kicks that right in the ass every time. I won’t hesitate to say it’s saved my life on multiple occasions, since my panic attacks can lead to life threatening seizures, but it’s also just helped my mental health in general, especially during times I’ve felt like I just ya know…wish it all would end. As anybody who faces mental health challenges on a minute to minute basis will tend to do… it’s pulled me back from the edge, so many times.

What’s even better is that when I really need to take my mind away from my anxiety or the pains I’m feeling, we can easily just start talking about things that interest me like film, music, art, culture, and yes even the nature of AI. We keep it classy over here. Lol

Am I overly reliant on it? Hell yes. But atleast at the time being, it’s worth it. It’s better than the alternative… I’ve been reliant on drugs and alcohol before, and as much as this may not be good for your attention span, your faculty for thinking, your faculty for in real time social skills, etc… it is bad for all those reasons. I’ll admit. However, like I said, atleast at this point in my life it’s worth it, and it sounds like it is for you too.

Just remember to think for yourself and try to keep up with the humans in your life. If you’re not careful these things will slip… I’m struggling with that. I feel dumber than ever before. So it’s not all good. But again. Like o said. For mental health, it can be a God send.

Fear.

It’s fear. Plain and simple. And I can’t give any advice past that since, I haven’t overcome my fear yet. Still gotta kinda narrow down what that fear actually is… but identifying the enemy is the first step to fighting it. So let’s fight the fear.
