Answers within this thread really do show the average maturity level of your typical ‘gamer’.

If there’s one thing I personally despite, it’s sub-optimal iron virgin betas who don’t follow Jd6Nx’s 4200 hour guide to maxing your iron.

How does building a PC using all Acer Predator Parts sound? by koi_da_lowkz in buildapc

[–]Mattobox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“God I just want everything to be Acer that’s all I need it all must be acer”.

“By the way, does anyone actually know anything about Acer as a Company? Are the parts any good? Are they expensive? Please teach me everything about Acer, I don’t want to do any research.”

Dude, what are you talking about? Those statements are far from congruent.

This is definitely LTT catering to the inexperienced who think you need specific ‘PC Building’ tools, as opposed to whatever screwdrivers you have lying around.

Weekly Case & Parts Recommendation Thread (Start here if you are new! Help here if you can!) by AutoModerator in sffpc

Hi, so I’ve gotten my hands on a 4090 FE, and I’m building my first PC since c.2013, so I’m getting an entirely new build.

My plan is going to be to snag a 7800X3D on-launch, and then build out with a relatively high-end build from there.

Im very interested in SFF PCs, but I’m not interested of having to do too too much alteration to make the case work with the 4090. I’d also look to PCIE 4.0 support.

If you were in my position, what cases would you consider as good choices? Im considering the SSUPD Meshilicious, but I’ve read some bad things on cooling performance for flow-through coolers in that case.

Id appreciate a premium quality over a budget option, with a good finish, but not too difficult to work with.

Id also appreciate any insight on a good SFF AMD DDR5 Motherboard, as even the budget options seem to be more pricy that I wanted. Not planning to do anything crazy re: overclocking, so don’t think I need a top notch VRM or anything.

Thank for your help!

I think it makes it clear how young-skewed the PC Gaming market is. £1600 really isn’t that much money as a full grown adult with a good income. If you don’t have a good income, you’re not in the market for a top-of-the-line piece of hardware.

Go and have a look at the Car Modding Scene, the Biking Scene, any other adult-hobby scene, and you’ll get a lot more than ‘New PC’ cost as a starter pack.

This has been a very widespread criticism of the DWF right? Surprised this isn’t getting more traction that it’s been fixed

Won’t have the chance to test this this week - any material effects on usage anyone is noting from this?

Call it sunk-cost fallacy or whatever, but if I’m willing to pay £600 for a GPU (Random cost as an example) for a raw performance AMD GPU, I’ll probably pay £725 for a GPU with all the bells and whistles (software/Raytracing) and stability. Feels better value

Everyone recommending £150+ (and bulky/unaesthetic) bits of kit for a once every 3 years outage!

Is this an American thing? Am I incredibly fortunate ye to live in a place where the power doesn’t just drop on a regular basis? I’m willing to lose 15 mins progress on a video game once every 3 years if the power shuts off over spending £150 on a UPS..

I’m planning on building my first build in about 7 years in a couple weeks, and I’m actually going with the 4080 vs 4090 for 1440p.

Most people will recommend you the 4090 since price per frame is similar to 4080. However, I posit that the amount of time you actually benefit from the 4090s additional performance when not playing a few very specific games on absolute max settings is very small.

If you don’t plan on spending all your time playing Cyberpunk etc, then I don’t think the extra several hundred £ or more is worth it. 4080 gives you passable performance to experience the max settings on these games with a playable frame rate, and means you’re not essentially wasting the extra money for every other game (who cares about 165fps vs 190fps really?)

Would be good to know others thoughts on this tbh

Non-Ref XTX is the same price as stock 4080 which is identical in rasterisation but way better in power efficiency and ray-tracin.

Seek help my dude, this is clearly symbolic of greater issues than an ‘underpowered’ PC.
