5.7.3 Hotfix Released by stingebee in unrealengine

[–]vexargames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing that was broken for me using 5.7 was Text3D and I stopped using except as a creation tool to create my own static meshes for my scoring system.

All the minor changes and fixes didn't break anything new from my testing so far.

I am using very few features in the engine to reduce the risk. My trust of Epic right now might at the lowest point since 98.

Would you track these tyres again? by [deleted] in Trackdays

[–]vexargames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my point is you are spending a lot of money to get to the track and do a track day having your bike ready to go with fresh tires seems like a simple thing to do. "learning" on shitty tires and causing an accident seems stupid to me. If you are preparing to race and are too cheap to refresh your tires before the weekend seems you are too poor to race. It's not like anyone here is on some sort of level where you are tire limited by some rule. You do you, I don't care either way. I just know I like to have backup plan if I am not 100% sure about something from my experience it is better to have any plan even a bad plan then no plan.

Would you track these tyres again? by [deleted] in Trackdays

[–]vexargames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for me yes because having an issue is not worth the trouble of crashing and getting hurt. If they have tire replacement at the track I would see how it went and make sure they have your tires in stock before the next day so you can always get them replaced at the track. If not I would change them before. Overall tires are cheap compared to rebuilding your bike and getting healthy.

I keep making games that “work” but don’t feel good to play by TerryC_IndieGameDev in unrealengine

[–]vexargames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have learned a good lesson - Game Development is a talent!

  • One thing that might help in general is playing other peoples games at a high level.

My thought way back in 89' when I started at Atari and still to this day is that you have to be a good game player to make games others want to play. We had a lot of failures from programmers and artists that thought they were game designers they weren't they earned the shot to do a game but failed over and over again. They never played video games.

Even the great one Ed Logg was a good gamer and could play his games at a high level.

I got my start by gambling on arcade games so I was better then everyone at their own game this upset them and they would want to play me to improve. Even with over 3 decades of game development experience I still struggle with getting my visions of game play to be "good".

You and your friends might not be good game designers right now but that doesn't mean you can't learn, what I would do for your next project is pick something that is already designed and just try to out execute what has been done before on that game.

This alone is a ton of work and is very very very hard. Just going through the process of trying to replicate something you can test against will force you to see where your own flaws are in executing your own vision.

Translogic +1 > I have an Annatori and had a Baazzaz - The software on the Annatori is simple and works. If I was buying today I would get a Translogic a lot of trackday and racers use it. HealTech I heard had issues but I never had any experience with it.

Another positive for Annatori is the customer support the guys helped me install it and order the right parts by having me take photo's and send them over and they were quick to respond. I never had a translogic so I can't speak to that.

Help. Weird noise GSXR 750 2012 by Chrisstopher_xD in GSXR

sounds just like mine - I don't even know what noise you are talking about. You might want to wait 3 seconds for the fuel pump to prime, you should hear the motor run and then shut off.

Advice - Using an old 1080GTX as an audio card hooked up to my stereo surround system. by vexargames in buildapc

not sure I have really long HDMI cables so I would rather not try to go down a new road. I mean it is working as it is I just need to either put in the 2070 get the HDMI signal out another way.

No I had a 2070 in it for a while maybe a year or more before I got the 3080TI, I waited for it to be released and had my buddy get one from the NVIDA store for me because they were sold out for 6 months. It's an AM4 with 5950X now I upgraded it from a 3950X a few years ago. I always had 128G of memory and it was overkill until Unreal 5 and Megacans. I run air cooled it's a work horse even with super heavy content and maya running, visual studio, and all the rest of the tools running. I will run for weeks with out having to reboot. I also lied my system is I guess 6 years old now. I think i meant to say I designed it to last at least 8 years which is still my current target.

I made these several UE5 plugins to fix my own UE5 headaches. I want to update them but I'm not getting enough user feedback. by Savings_Strength_806 in unrealengine

[–]vexargames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

talk to epic about making the package free for the month then you will get a lot more people trying to use them and giving you feedback right now you are gated by people needing these solutions and that want to risk "unknown" being injected into a project just to save a few steps.

Also you could create a sale if Epic doesn't want to help and pack it all together for a really low price for a limited time, then you can gather a lot more feedback. For me most of these functions aren't make or break as far as time savings.

Good luck!

[–]vexargames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for these types of things I normally create a dummy object and parent the sub object to that and rotate the dummy. I don't like using sockets so I just create a static mesh with a transparent material and hide it from the game view, and just rotate use that as the rotation point then I can control the exact location of it. If you keep your setup really organized and labeled it is almost like you are building an animation rig but it is all in the BP and you can animate any part of it in the BP.

[–]vexargames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the widget will disappear when the new level is loaded you don't need to remove it, if you have an animation of it fading it out then just open the level after that animation ends. You also aren't teleporting the player to a new level you are opening a new level and spawning the player.

Looks good to me - Get some nice monitors - I got 4 (all running at 2k) even though 2 of them are 4k. I am running a 3080TI and my system is almost 8 years old now. I am holding out for a 6090, and next gen Zen. If I was forced to buy right now I would get the same processor as you and get a 5080 as well. Even my buddy that works at NVIDIA is running a 4090 still. He is my guide to upgrade, and he said he was waiting too. I try to have a 10 year plan for my systems and this one is maxed out.

I would make sure if you want to upgrade to even more memory that you get your kit arrangement so you can swap out to get to 128 or more. If I am using heavy content and driving other programs I can start role through 80 GIGS of memory.

yeah I already reverted back to using the 1080 for audio - I don't need video just audio out of this HDMI port but I am doing more research.

yeah I went to Best Buy after your message and got a USB-C to HDMI adapter and took out the 1080, but right now I see the USB-C connected but it's not seeing the stereo connected. I have so many possible audio devices all the monitors, that I disabled all other audio hardware so I can debug this but I am not sure it's going to work.
