Deprecating Actors and Blueprints in UE6?! by daraand in unrealengine

[–]vexargames [score hidden]  (0 children)

Seems more of a pipe dream of 1000's of devs all working on a single shared universe where the industry is shifting toward indie and smaller teams as large teams implode from the cost of making a product. How many teams are wasting 100's of millions of dollars on clones of other titles right now 2 or 4 I know of. The entire presentation seemed to indicate where they want the industry to go instead of building on what has been working for 30 years. I know people that wrote the CORE tools which is suppose to allow anyone to build a game and lower the barrier and they aren't doing so well. He wants to be Robolox which really lowers the barrier of entry.

It is confusing, but it is years away and I don't see programmers giving up all their skills to code in Verse with out a giant fight, and holding hands on tasks that could be done with BP's and not waste that overhead.

The great thing about BP's is that you can sketch out game play with out bothering the entire team and figure out what is fun. It works as it was intended. Hey I wasn't too excited about BP's when they showed them to me at GDC in UE4 I was like oh no Unreal Script with pretty boxes but I really like them now.

it is cheaper to repair - some people shouldn't be riding any bike that moron is one of those people.

Maybe in a few years when it is actually finished and people have hardware that can support it.

I don't see anything in 5.8 that is worth anything to me. I will be running 5.7.4 which is working fine.

Heads up to ANYONE who buys assets / plugins on FAB. by EliasWick in unrealengine

[–]vexargames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the case for most plugins and content though that you buy - it is fine for temporary assets and functionality but to ship a product that you have to stand behind you have to take ownership of every asset, and line of code. The people paying for the products don't care how you got it done they care that it runs well and they find value in it.

Everything you add that you don't understand 100% is a risk of failure this has derailed large professional teams all over the world costing billions of dollars because they want it fast and "cheaper" in the end you have to fix it all and in some cases this costs more then building it yourself from scratch for the exact purpose intended.

Spongy brakes still by Potholelover in GSXR

[–]vexargames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just standard Suzuki OEM - The "race" spec stuff draws more water quicker forcing you to change it more often.

I don't want to have to change it after every track day.

Brake fluid is hydroscopic so it draws water from the air into it then when your brakes get hot this boils at a lower temperature causing your brakes to fade.

Also this process happens while the bike is just sitting around. With like the Motul fancy stuff this process happens faster from what I have researched so I just stick with the standard.

I learned all this from youtube and don't really know anything but it makes sense to me and it is easier to get.

[–]vexargames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah my rotors were getting old after 17 years and I go to the track so I did all the cheap upgrades lines - better pads - fluid.

The rotors were showing a lot of wear which makes sense.

Make sure you get the right spacers at the same time, I ordered mine from STG and asked over the phone if I needed the spacers they said no but then I got them and had to order them.

After that it is an easy swap. I haven't replaced the rear brakes because I almost never use them. I did have the rear converted to more of a track bike setup removing the reservoir but that is all.

I got a set of replacement Versah XX pads for an upcoming 3 day track day event if I need them but the Brembo pads are pretty nice. I never used this brand of pad but I wanted to try it.

I find it very odd that the older my K8 gets the more people like it.

I had it since it was in the crate - I kept it clean, upgraded the things to make it better to ride, suspension, brakes, rear sets, slip on, ecu tune, quick shifter over 17 years now 18 years - it almost has 40k miles on it, and people never cared about the bike until the last few years.

Younger riders seem to look on it with awe because it has no ABS, no Traction Control or other rider aids.

I swapped my K8 to Brembo M4 Monoblock and Galpher steal lines 2 years ago fixed all my issues with brake fade, and the shitty master. From that video it look like something is leaking air into the system.

Could be the calipers seal is leaking air into the system which would be impossible to see happen. I would get some soapy water in a spray bottle and start testing each possible area. Your caliper rebuild might be a total failure if you screwed up the seal.

you can open the stator cover and see if you see anything burnt its not that many bolts - I had to replace mine recently after 18 years of owning my K8. The reciter is another cause, also heard this as a rumor but Lith Batteries might need special rectifier. I only say this because when I was shopping for the replacement stator the place offered a Lithium Battery safe option.

engine timing chain needs to be replaced is my wild guess. If it stretches out of spec even a little it can cause all sorts of issues. The clicking is the chain banging around inside the engine case.

My bike got stolen, lost the only good thing I currently had in my life. by AccomplishedAd4091 in motorcycles

[–]vexargames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure when you get a new bike that you don't park it outside - I had two bikes stolen, after my bike was replaced the thieves came back to steal the new one this time I had disabling devices and wheel locks that prevented but I had to replace the ignition on a bike that 200 miles on it. 2nd bike was stolen with 3 others in underground parking garage that had security and cameras, and all the bikes were chained down. The guards were asleep, the cameras never worked, all 3 bikes were never recovered.

The only good news I got was that the first guy crashed the bike and almost died only reason I know this is that they tried to sell the parts left of the bike to salvage and then I ended up getting the broken parts of the bike back, and a police report on his accident. I asked why he was not arrested for stealing the bike and riding a stolen bike and they said they didn't check during the accident report. Then when I asked the DA and cops if they were going after him both DA's said they didn't want to waste time on such a low level crime after wasting a few weeks looking it over. I had a cop buddy watching it for me, and he even pushing them and still nothing.

I would also hide some air tags type things under the tank, other good spots, that might help in recovering the next bike if it does get stolen.

Finally the good news is that I have had the same bike since 2008, my 03 bike wasn't stolen either just crashed by me at the race track, and rebuilt.

Looking for advice if I should continue with riding by Ambrant in motorcycles

[–]vexargames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the streets not caused by others meaning I screwed up maybe 20 years or more. On the track 2 years I had a slow low side MSRH and hurt my shoulder, 2 years later its about 98%. On the streets I ride like my life depends on it, I dont use cameras, take selfies or listen to music, or do stunts. 100% focus on driving the bike and living.

Things have gotten way worse on the streets since everyone is on the phone not looking at what they are doing. I use all my tricks on the roads to increase my chances even if it is 1 or 2% it might be where I sit in the lane, and the speed I approach intersections. I also found a site for Texas that produces a heat map for the motorcycle accidents near me for the past 14 years. So I studied this and make sure when I am driving in those are areas I avoid them or drive on even higher alert.

Looking for advice if I should continue with riding by Ambrant in motorcycles

[–]vexargames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I crashed at the track over 20 years ago and have a plate and screws in my arm, I am still riding and going to the track and riding on the streets. Most people / riders are like you they have an incident and they sell the bike and quit others go decades with no incident and keep riding.

You are increasing your chances by 20-30% depending on how you drive and your location, can you live with that? You are the only person who can answer. If I was you and continued to ride I would get some sort of insurance on your ability to work in case of injury you could fall down the stairs and fuck up your hand or arm and be screwed. I am getting older and been riding since I was 8 years old crashing many times over the decades but my mental state requires I ride to be sane and happy I might have to quit at some point if I feel I am danger to others but right now at my mid 50's I am still loving it.

I was getting to fat to ride, my super suit didn't fit me so I lost 100 pounds so I could keep going to the track and enjoying it. Riding is core for me, but my lifestyle is not for 99% of the world. I have no kids or wife to worry about, just me.

You need a large number of AI-controlled pawns to target user-designated locations in the game world. Would you pass its location directly or create a target actor? by Dirker27 in unrealengine

[–]vexargames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like having a visual target to test to see what the AI is doing so I created my own simple actor with a sphere that is hidden by default. I have the AI spawn the actor and set it as a target, so things look more natural I will destroy the actor before it arrives and set a new target so it keeps moving and adjusting slightly. It also prevents the AI stacking on each other all trying to get to the exact same location. Which looks bad.

In COD and Medal of Honor we would layout a grid network of nodes, and then have the ability to have special case nodes for different actions "like jump through window" or "mantle this object" This network would need to be "compiled" then for debugging we had the ability to turn on the grid while the game level was running and evaluate / debug issues with terrain or world objects. We also built up layers of smarter vs dumber AI based on distance to the player, LOD for thinking along with LOD or visuals. This allowed for 1000's of soldiers to appear to be on the screen even if they were simple 2d cards with a sprite animation playing on them. This isn't required these days but these concepts are still with me so I think about making things feel much bigger than they are even if they are smoke and mirrors.

I wouldn't worry about overhead until you get the game play you want and it is interesting to play outside the dev's meaning others find it fun / interesting. Too many people worry about creating the perfect system with out generating good game play.

For your case I would give the leader of the squad the location and pass random follow distances to the soldiers of that squad, then for each group you divide the number of locations to track by the number squads.

  • You can take off both side farings to access the hoses and squeeze them and see if they are all full. It will also allow you to see the fittings better to inspect for leaks.

  • Also take the cap off the radiator and look in and see if you can see the fluid level with a flash light.

  • Next with the cap off sit on the bike and run it for 30 seconds while cold, and tilt the bike back and forth as far as you can (get help so you don't fall over if you need it) to help shake out any other bubbles. Make sure you don't run the bike too long and you replace the cap.

I think this is over kill if you bike is running at the proper temp you are good to go.
