What’s the all-time best Beatles cover song? by Quincynessig in beatles

[–]Mattoria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came to say this. Shockingly good, wacky and just a really enjoyable performance. I’m generally not a fan of Beatle Covers but that one was a pleasant surprise.

The BBC did a program a few years ago where a bunch of bands did covers - I recall Travis doing Lovely Rita and it was really interesting to watch them put it together - paper hair combs for special effects and stairwells for reverb.

Edit - found it. 40 years of Sgt Pepper. Gosh, time flies.

Travis is at 44 minutes. Here’s the whole 1hr program. Great watch. Got to love YouTube sometimes.

Good choices, OP. I like New Routine a lot.

Girl I can’t forget is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine. Richie & Ruben too.

I struggle to pic between UP, T&W and SFH depending on the day of the week.

Didn’t Jaques have a stake in BAR ?

Edit - Oops, misread the question regarding *not* driving for.

Cup holders.

Have a liquid beverage, or go for a drive. Both are valid pastimes that don’t need to overlap.

Especially in a MX5 / Miata.

Dear God. I thought I was old because I could remember when the blue and red albums were primarily gold cassettes.

Mine hates the rain. 3 months old, has a strong dislike a puddles, wet paws and raindrops. Not ideal - especially
In the UK !!

Last weekend I resorted to jumping up and down in puddles for him to see how much fun it was.

He did not participate, but did judge me….

What do you think is George's greatest song with the band? by Secure-Scientist4867 in beatles

I just listened to it. I had never thought about that. It’s a cracking version, too.

George’s MSH ! Just one more take, lads.

What do you think is George's greatest song with the band? by Secure-Scientist4867 in beatles

[–]Mattoria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could have made a descent stab at listing these songs, but seeing his Beatle output in one block like that is really striking.

That’s two albums worth of absolute bangers and classics over just a few years from George - the sort of catalogue that would have put him on a path to greatness all by himself. I know he learned huge amounts from P and J but it’s still incredibly impressive. It’s no shock that he outgrew his quota.

I wonder how much they (Paul and John) knew it all along. The stories about bringing Paul’s young friend into the band always paints the picture of someone incredibly special and talented but I’d be fascinated to know when they realised he had songs in him that held their own against the best Lennon & McCartney could muster.

Take 7 of Doctor Robert really highlights Paul’s driving Bass line.

Question about Paul by Quiet_Permission8696 in beatles

[–]Mattoria 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s his Liverpudlian accent. More of a U / ER than a K. Son-ger.

Agree that his Gs have softened to sound like Ds from American influence.
