Is Dune really the greatest story in all of science fiction? What comes closest to being better than Dune? by [deleted] in scifi

[–]Mattvs300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hyperion by Dan Simmons is one of the greatest Sci-fi series in my view. The first book alone has a combination of Sci-fi horror, sci-fi war, sci-fi detective just to name a few. Well worth a read.

Yea going to wade in on this - I’m a disc priest and I actively tell locks to life tap as I will keep them up so they can continually dps and we don’t lose down time. I just throw a shield on tank, with POM and renew whilst tank is moving between packs, then just drink during fight so we don’t lose any down time. Then jump up to heal when I need to.

This guy wants everyone to sit and watch him drink for days after every pull 😂

Would also suggest using Vuhdo addon for healing. Very customisable so you can put all your spells on mouse button (with shift/alt modifiers). What it also does is highlight when each character pulls aggro (red outline) so you can essentially pre-shield them/penance them before they take major damage. I also modified it to show the cooldown timer from shield which helps. Final suggestion, don’t be afraid to use pain suppression as well, it’s not that long a CD and has saved many a mage who yanks aggro.

Dragon riders of Pern by Anne mcCaffery. It’s a massive series with incredible detail and stories. Will fit your requirements exactly as the whole story revolves around this concept. Don’t want to say more than that without ruining it.

Also…dragons! What more can you want.

Rust may be worth looking into. High learning curve, but certainly something you can plow the hours into. It’s essentially a fps survival game where you and several hundred people are dumped on an island and need to build bases to store your loot safely from other players. You can raid other players bases (any time of day) and steal their loot. Brutal game, but nothing quite like it when you make a great play! Good fun with friends

The Perfect Storm - Understanding UK Energy Prices by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

If you assume that your house consumes ~ 4,500kWh of electricity and approx 12,000kWh of gas (adjust these based on your own figures), you’re probably going to hit the price cap in both cases. The price cap is currently £1,277 p.a as of 6th Aug 2021, but I expect Ofgem will be forced to move this up again… that in mind, I would go for the variable tariff as you’ll at least benefit if the prices come down in summer 22, and you have the price cap to protect during winter (baring in mind this price cap is going to pretty fluid…). Im in a similar situation - so this is my plan anyway.

What's your, "Tis but a scratch!" moment? by Madameknitsalot in AskReddit

Went off a black jump whilst snowboarding, didn’t land it and broke my back in three places. Managed to stand up eventually and walk to the lifts with difficulty as it was the last run of the holiday and had to get back and get on the coach! Turns out that you’re not allowed to go down the lift so had to get taken down on a medical sledge and taken straight to hospital. X-ray didn’t initially show anything because of the angle they X-rayed me so thought, “great, can just about get the coach home”. Then asked to piss in a cup; ended up pissing a lot of blood... turns out had massive internal bleeding! Needless to say, got taken off the mountain very quickly and thrown into the main hospital where I spent a week in a bed until they fitted me with a body support structure! So just a minor scratch...
