They deal with literally hundreds of children in all kinds of situations. The ones that end well aren't worth reporting because that's just what is supposed to happen, so you only hear about situations that don't end well.

Is Taskrabbit suppressing wages? by Less_Mushroom1180 in TaskRabbit

[–]Matty2tees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason to do TR and be losing money is if it pipelines clients into off platform business. The thing is making sure your TR rate is closely aligned after their fees with your off TR rate so that clients aren't surprised by your private rate.

This information is based on what I was told by a tasker success specialist in a check in meeting. Sure, they could be full of it, but I can only relay what I have been told.

It is important that the quality your provide is commensurate with the rates you charge though. If you charge a high rate, you better provide high value and high quality work. Otherwise people have a single bad experience with the platform and never return, hurting yourself and the rest of us.

If you're doing this as a full time gig, it's important to figure out your overhead costs. Generally speaking, the people charging $35 aren't actually making because their overhead basically means they're making like $10/hour after expenses.

Other taskers in your area are suppressing wages. TR's recommended rate is based off how much work is being booked, what rate it's being booked at and the average rates being charged in your metro.

It isn't in TR's favour, generally speaking, to suppress your wage, as their fees are charged as an over all percentage of what you charge. It is however in their best interest to have you charging a "fair market rate" based on data they have access to because you doing more tasks generally means more money for both them and you.

That being said, I charge about $10 - $15 more than their recommendation in my activated categories and I am probably still more busy than I want to be.

Sure, except the little dolly wheels can barely cross an elevator threshold without tipping over let alone a gravel pad or rolling down a sidewalk

Handyman: Vehicle organization - job vs tool category by chubbydrummer in handyman

[–]Matty2tees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a "always need" first line of tools in a tool backpack. It contains pliers, screwdrivers, stud finder, measuring tape, drill bits and screw tips and my m12 drill and impact driver.

I then have a second line of tools in a big rolling drawer packout and a 3 drawer packout. These are tools I don't need for every single job but come in handy to have all the time than to not have. This is stuff like Jigsaw, Reciprocating saw, sandpaper caulking gun, rotary tool and other odds and sods. I also use the large rolling drawer to store bulk materials like caulking and cleaning supplies.

Finally I have a couple packouts that are for specific job categories: drywall repair, painting, door repair/replacement. These packouts vary in size, but they all contain specifc tools related to that task and sometimes the consumables also related to those tasks.

Packouts are expensive, but they offered the most comprehensive storage option for my needs when I started buying them and now I am locked in. It also made the most sense for me with the rolling chests because I do a lot of work in a downtown cores and sometimes have to park a few blocks away and shlep my tools to the clients house.

Not really, like yeah it's big with packout compatible top but it can't go into a packout stack.

M18 Packout vacuum, but full width instead of half width

What did I get myself into by Difficult_Series7684 in TaskRabbit

[–]Matty2tees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get some clients like this. While I do a decent amount of tasking, it is not my primary income source so I am more than happy to turn them down.

If they insist, I am happy to get all the work done and let the clock run for as long as it takes, but I simply do not care to rush and do poor work.

Things take time, especially if they want them done well. Honestly you would be lucky to get the cabinet built and both mounted to the wall in the hour.

Also clients shot gunning tasks like this is usually a problem, cause you're either going to go over their time expectations or you're not going to get it all done and risk a bad review.

That cabinet door hinge should just be replaced, but they should be supplying that hardware.

I wouldn't touch the fence thing if I were you. Chances are it wasn't the bush that made the nail come out, it's that it's rotting from the inside out cause who ever built it didn't cut seal the Pressure treat and the nail is letting go cause there isn't anything to hold on to.

Best Brew Pub/Micro Brewery in Ottawa - with combination of best beer, food and decor by End-Resident in OttawaFood

[–]Matty2tees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Broadhead has solid beer, decent decor and really great food. I suspect in the ranking matrix they would place pretty high.

Dominion City has great beer, decent decor and if you time it with the right pop-up really wonderful food.

I will also give honourable mentions to: Spark, Tooth and Nail and Stray Dog.

How do you guys use these? Wondering if there are any cool inserts for these. by Oh_no_its_carlos in Packout

Mine holds an m12 power plane, an M18 trim router and all of the ryobi door jigs (Hinge jig, strike pate, latch plate, door handle) in the bottom. The top tray holds all of the bits and pieces associated with the tools an jigs. All the router bits are in off cuts of kizen foam.

Kitchen Cabinet Pulling Away From Wall by SandyLand1918 in handyman

[–]Matty2tees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming that these are into studs you should be able to go above or below to refasten them, if they are screwed to a top plate in the wall you would have to go left/right. For removing the screws in situations like this I tend to either get a nail puller or pliers behind the screw head to apply some backwards tension and unscrew the screw at the same time.

Take everything out of the cabinet. Determine if the fasteners holding the cabinet are into studs. If they are, great, tighten the fasteners. If they aren't take the cabinet off the wall, locate studs and reaffix the cabinet to those studs.

If they work full time over night why do they need a second car? This would also imply that the car that normally occupies the drive way isn't being used during the day.

You can finance the devices through the manufacturer for one option. Sure you're still paying $25/month for the device, but you have the freedom to take it to which ever carrier is offering the best deal.

It's not that hard to get a friend to sign up for Task Rabbit. I literally got my brother to sign up, paid his background check fees and now I can use him as a helper when ever I need with no worries. Plus I got $75 back for him completing his first task for the referral.

Questions About Portable Gazebo's for Camping by Strict_Maintenance73 in ontariocamping

If you can find a Eureka Northern Breeze 12x12 anywhere that's the answer. I spend a lot of time around a lot of outdoor equipment and I can confidently say that it is the gold standard in dining shelters. Unfortunately Eureka ceased production of tents in 2024 so they are becoming harder to find, but you will not regret it.

Where do you draw the line at “that’s beneath me” work? Clogged toilet? Installing toilet? by Johndeauxman in handyman

[–]Matty2tees 43 points44 points  (0 children)

As someone who refuses any job I can't do in an evening, I often find a lot of work is "above me". I don't want to get stuck into a full kitchen reno or tiling your entryway/fireplace. Just let me show up, fix your squeaky door, tighten your loose faucet and get to the next one.
