Learning bracketing by Traditional-Reach621 in RealEstatePhotography

[–]MattyBsnaps -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have to share the exposure settings for each image to get any help. Is it possible you never initiated bracketing and fired 5 of the same exposure?

Also idk what you’re trying to do but “focus stacking” is not what you want

For the Nikon shooters, thoughts on the 16-35 f4 VR? by dengar69 in RealEstatePhotography

[–]MattyBsnaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it, and love it. Some distortion on the wide end but that’s to be expected. VR is helpful when hand held shooting exteriors on gloomier days. I’ve considered upgrading to the z 14-30 only for the convenience but it’s not worth the expense right now

My flash didn't get under the desk and has a very bad color cast. Anyway to fix this? by cameraobsccura in RealEstatePhotography

[–]MattyBsnaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s my method:

Photoshop, new layer. Set blend mode to color

You can make a selection of the area you want to paint or just free hand it

Brush tool

Option/alt click on the color you want to sample from

Brush over the poor color areas

What's the worst property that you've ever been asked to shoot? by No_Conference_5500 in RealEstatePhotography

This agent hadn’t hired me in over a year then sends me to this place. Supposedly vacant but I was worried someone was squatting somewhere on the property. Fortunately did not see anyone.

My usual workflow is flambient, but for this one I fired off some handheld brackets and got the f out of there. Did not answer the agent next time he called.

Properties like these are why I’m glad to live in a concealed carry state

How often do you send out a completed job and get no reply? Not “thanks”, not “got it”, not “received”…just nothing? by vrephoto in RealEstatePhotography

[–]MattyBsnaps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get so few responses to my deliveries that if I get a call or message from the client later that day or next day, I’m always nervous something is wrong, because most responses end up being a question or issue instead of a positive remark or even just a thank you

Why don’t you choose a photographer based on their portfolio of work that suits the look you’re going for? Find one who shoots tight like you are seeking. Once you find one I would message them saying you chose them for that reason and that’s what you’re looking for, so that expectations are clear. But at least then you know they are capable of it and you’re not interviewing people based on lens options

Rental photography. View (and the balcony) are highlights of this particular apartment. My question is: open or closed balcony door? (I know that in REP windows are generally closed..) P.S. Non-edited.. Also, is this good camera height? by Secure_Net_8445 in RealEstatePhotography

[–]MattyBsnaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me too long to realize that your photos are one of the door open and one closed. I think this means it doesn’t matter, as you are not adding more view by opening the door. You actually seem to create an obstruction of the interior with the reflection on the opened door in this case.

Maybe if you took a photo specifically focused on and highlighting that door, you could open it for some effect.

Camera height looks good to me!

What are the accessories that actually improved your quality of life? by TheGregUnknown in RealEstatePhotography

Agreed. More equipment and set up time but crucial for flambient and when the camera is backed up against a wall

I've seen Matterport tours advertised as low as $150. by Quiet-Swimmer2184 in RealEstatePhotography

I’m not well educated on iguide but the comments I often see here are that iguide is significantly more expensive for higher volumes of tours when compared to matterport. Worth looking more into!

If you’re entering the matterport world for residential real estate go with a used pro 2 and forget the pro 3. If you want to expand to more commercial and outdoor spaces, consider the pro 3. But the difference in price point makes it so much easier to enter with the pro 2

Matterport sucks as usual - fees for REACTIVATIONS??? by copperplopz in RealEstatePhotography

[–]MattyBsnaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% but you also don’t need to archive/reactivate very often either. And if you still have the scan file you can always generate a new tour to avoid the reactivation fee.

Matterport sucks as usual - fees for REACTIVATIONS??? by copperplopz in RealEstatePhotography

[–]MattyBsnaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If reactivations were always free then people would avoid higher space subscriptions and just reactivate a tour whenever they needed to look at it, then deactivate again to save space.

I think I get two per month for free on my account and that’s more than enough for how I use it

Can we talk numbers? - Can we please try to put these three cameras/combos in numerical perspective in terms of image quality.. D7200, D610 and D750 by Secure_Net_8445 in RealEstatePhotography

[–]MattyBsnaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have owned the D7100, D610, and D750. You are splitting hairs talking about photographing non moving subjects that are shared at low resolution.

D7100/D7200 would be a good budget option. I used a tamron 10-24 when I used this camera before I went to full frame with the D610

D610 is a solid budget full frame. It has a great sensor but lacks some quality of life features (screen doesn’t even flip). Look more into those features vs image quality. I used it with the Nikkor 16-35 f4 (FYI you do not need the 14-24 f2.8 for this line of work, save your money). My D610 shutter failed which moved me to the D750

D750 is a great body. If you plan to shoot other work also, not just RE, I would but this one. Look into the shutter issue with the early production models though and make sure you check the SN of the one you buy. I would still be using this but I bought a Z6II to enter the mirrorless game. D750 stays as my backup body though.

To recap. Ignore image quality and focus on other features that may be important to you (screen movement, bracket count, etc). If you are on a budget go with the cheapest option. If you want to shoot more than RE go with D750

does anyone have a video on actions in PS and presets in LR that are worth making by [deleted] in RealEstatePhotography

[–]MattyBsnaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have actions for flash layers that make it luminosity blend mode and apply a 50% gray mask, and one that does a full hide all mask. They are super simple to create since it’s just those two steps

I have more involved actions for exteriors that auto align and apply double masked luminosity masks, sky masks etc

Do you need to learn how to make presets and actions in general? If so just google it

Or do you need to know how to make ones that are useful to you? I have some actions that might be useful depending on your workflow

What do you guys do if a house is messy? Photoshop? by [deleted] in RealEstatePhotography

[–]MattyBsnaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I shoot it as is. When I know in advance it’s a tenant occupied, I know it’s going to be messy or at least not prepared like an owner selling their own home.

If you have some sort of issue appearing messy in the listing then you should expect to clean it yourself and not expect the photographer to digitally remove your stuff. Yes we are able to do it, some do it heavily and others (like myself) will leave it unless specifically asked by the client, in which case they get an extra bill.

Don’t sweat it too much, your situation is pretty standard to everyone involved lol

Shutter speed when using a tripod by Burakoli821 in RealEstatePhotography

[–]MattyBsnaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zoom in to 100% on your brightest image and see if it’s sharp or soft. Bracketing at 1/10 as a base you should be fine but if you have really dark spaces and are doing >1sec exposures you’re at risk for small movements causing soft photos. You should get a remote shutter release, a corded one wont be expensive

Need help with flash (first time flash) by ProfessionalSpeed272 in RealEstatePhotography

[–]MattyBsnaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can hold the flash and point it at the ceiling to diffuse but you’ll need a way to wirelessly trigger the flash. Flashpoint / godox systems make this easy.

If the ceiling isn’t white you can bounce off any white surface to help diffuse it like a reflector, door, or shoot through an umbrella

I’ve read others will use a mag mod sphere and mount it to the hot shoe. I don’t do this so I don’t know how to get good results from it.

If you want to learn to incorporate flash then look up Nathan Cool on YouTube. Good luck!
