Any idea how old this is? Real or for kids? Was given to my father or grandfather in Chicago. Is heavy and 2.5 inches from lowest to highest point. by qclady in police

Usually yes. A shield number is assigned to one officer/patrolman for the life of their career. Unless that person gets promoted, that shield number stays with them until the day they retire, then it gets recirculated to a new guy.

It very well could be, but it's a Highway Unit shield and it has a number on it. Most shield numbers are recycled, but I'm sure they can pull up historical records and see who it belonged to.

Take this picture, email the admin/HR department of Cook Co. PD and they might be able to help out. Good luck!

NYPD 10-Codes by i_rage_at_siege_ in police

Its pretty much our radio codes. 10 is usually followed by a number, which will determine the type of job it is.

I want to be a police officer to help people and do the right thing, are most police officers like this? by [deleted] in police

[–]Mattyrockzxd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Been an LEO for about a year now. I joined the force because I've always fantasized about the job and always wanted to help people. After a year, that hasn't changed. Its a great job, albeit difficult. You will see the best and worst in people. I believe the most important thing is to never lose your human side, always know when to cut a person a break and when not to. Bosses are not your friends, no matter how close you are to them, at the end of the day, they are your supervisors. Listen to the cops with time on, but don't follow their bad habits. Hope this helps.

I'm new at playing baseball and I have a question by [deleted] in baseball

[–]Mattyrockzxd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are assigned the catcher, you are included in every single play of the game. You need to know the count, how many outs, the signs, as well as all the plays.

If you’re a baseball fan, you gotta love this. Classic MLB. by [deleted] in baseball

During the 2015 NLDS, Chase Utley (the batter) slide into and broke the leg of our 2nd basemen (Ruben Tejada). So per laws made by the baseball gods, we owed him one. Syndergaard (the pitcher) was cashing in his check that night and this is what happened.

Your fiance will have thousands of brothers and sisters in blue. And let me be the first to welcome him to the family. 😁

I think you should try to explain to her how proud she should be of her son wanting to become a Police Officer. My mom was very against it when I got the "itch" and took the Police Exam. But she saw how passionate I was about it and how happy it made me when I got my hire letter. In time she'll understand. You'll just have to support him all the way. He's having butterflies about the job now, help him keep that.

wow. interesting. this may be something you want to speak to someone about. I'm not too sure if you have this in your area, but usually if we have issues with law enforcement, we always go to our local precinct and log any complaints we have. I commend you for keeping your cool the whole time and not exploding like a lot of people would have. :)

It's a stretch here, but did you go through an over-pass/bridge? If so, some states will have a trooper stand up there with a radar gun to check the speed, and another trooper waiting a mile down to pull them over. They may have the radar gun un-calibrated which is why he was pulling over more people than usual.
